THE RAPTOR REPORT
Principal Points: May

judith

Believe it or not, there are only 41/2 weeks remaining until the Class of 2015 graduates on June 3, 2015, and the days will fly by.

First and foremost, on behalf of all the faculty and staff at AMHS, THANK YOU for a memorable Teacher Appreciation Week. Your generosity and kindnesses are truly remarkable and appreciated by all of us. We love sharing our days with your students, and your gift cards, notes, breakfast and lunch were wonderful reminders that we work in a very special community. THANK YOU!!!

As we prepare also for the 2015 - 2016 school year, I want to remind you that we will be required again to collect and validate information on students' residences. Please begin to gather the following items: a property tax bill if you own your home; a lease agreement if you are renting, a contract if you are building; a copy of a water bill, a cable bill, a power bill, or a phone bill (not cell); a signed and notarized affidavit affirming that you and your student live at the Charleston County address listed. Specific details will come home with the final report cards and will appear on our website, but I want you to be preparing for this "address verification" process.

This school year has been a successful one, and I hope that each student and faculty/staff member will remember the year as a positive and purposeful one. As we come to its close, please let us know if there are any questions or concerns that you may have. We want to continue our efforts to maintain the academic excellence and the sense of community associated with AMHS.

Thank you for your support this year; we look forward to the 2015-2016 school year with optimism and a strong sense of purpose.

Vote today for Andy Turner on You Tube in the S.C. Filmmakers Project

Magnet's very own Andy Turner has been named a Top Ten Finalist in the 2015 S.C. Young Filmmakers Project, the state's high school filmmaking competition. He submitted the short film: "We Went Camping" featuring AMHS students Rado Bochnar, Chris Camp, Trace Hall, Mason Proctor, and Cole Shubert.

Public voting takes place for a two-week period (April 20-May 4).  Each 'like' will count as one vote; only those 'likes' collected on entries uploaded by YFP on its official YouTube channel will count.  Those scores will be combined with the original judges' scores to determine the winners.

Please watch Andy's video on YouTube, give it a "thumbs up," and share with your friends and family.

Athens and the Islands...
AMHS Spring Break 2016

Trace the path of Ancient History! Experience the Acropolis, Delphi, the Temple of Poseidon, Santorini, Patmos, Crete, Rhodes, and Ephesus.

We have slightly revised the trip for Spring Break 2016. With consideration for getting the best value for our money without missing too much school, we are offering a 10-day trip to Greece and Turkey.

We offered a trip to Greece a few years ago, and it was a great success, particularly the islands! Please take a look at the itinerary online or send me an email if you would like a hard copy. You can also pick up information in my room or in Mr. McCormick's. If you would like to register for the trip, please go to www.eftours.com, then type in the tour number 1668155KK. The total price is detailed for you on line. You can sign up for the trip with a $95 deposit. When you sign up on line, you can choose to pay the company monthly or pay in full, 90 days before departure.

The earlier you sign up the less the monthly payment! We have also included 2 extra activities in the price - a Greek cooking class and a Greek Evening with food and music.

Please let me know if you have any questions. You can reach me by phone at 746-1300, ex. 26227 or by email at Mary_Altman@charleston.k12.sc.us.
