THE RAPTOR REPORT
Vote today for Andy Turner on You Tube in the S.C. Filmmakers Project

Magnet's very own Andy Turner has been named a Top Ten Finalist in the 2015 S.C. Young Filmmakers Project, the state's high school filmmaking competition. He submitted the short film: "We Went Camping" featuring AMHS students Rado Bochnar, Chris Camp, Trace Hall, Mason Proctor, and Cole Shubert.

On April 18, Andy joined fellow finalists in Columbia for a public screening and Q&A session at the Nickelodeon Theatre during the Indie Grits Festival.
As part of its mission to foster South Carolina's production industry, the South Carolina Film Commission produces a series of grant and training programs throughout the year for professional crew, producers, and independent filmmakers in the state.

Public voting takes place for a two-week period (April 20-May 4).  Each 'like' will count as one vote; only those 'likes' collected on entries uploaded by YFP on its official YouTube channel will count.  Those scores will be combined with the original judges' scores to determine the winners.

Please watch Andy's video on YouTube, give it a "thumbs up," and share with your friends and family.

Marine Science Classes Visit St. Stephen Fish Lift and Dewees Island

The marine science classes finished up their last field trips of the year. Before spring break, they visited the St. Stephen Fish Lift to learn how fish migrate into Lakes Marion and Moultrie. Then in April they visited Dewees Island to learn all about the ecology of a sea island. Although the weather didn't hold back for one trip, the students had a great time.

Athens and the Islands...
AMHS Spring Break 2016

Trace the path of Ancient History! Experience the Acropolis, Delphi, the Temple of Poseidon, Santorini, Patmos, Crete, Rhodes, and Ephesus.

We have slightly revised the trip for Spring Break 2016. With consideration for getting the best value for our money without missing too much school, we are offering a 10-day trip to Greece and Turkey.

We offered a trip to Greece a few years ago, and it was a great success, particularly the islands! Please take a look at the itinerary online or send me an email if you would like a hard copy. You can also pick up information in my room or in Mr. McCormick's. If you would like to register for the trip, please go to www.eftours.com, then type in the tour number 1668155KK. The total price is detailed for you on line. You can sign up for the trip with a $95 deposit. When you sign up on line, you can choose to pay the company monthly or pay in full, 90 days before departure.

The earlier you sign up the less the monthly payment! We have also included 2 extra activities in the price - a Greek cooking class and a Greek Evening with food and music.

Please let me know if you have any questions. You can reach me by phone at 746-1300, ex. 26227 or by email at Mary_Altman@charleston.k12.sc.us.
