If you care about the environment, please join us A-day Mondays at lunch in room 7224. We do more than clean!

AMHS Spring Break 2016
|

Trace the path of Ancient History! Experience the Acropolis, Delphi, the Temple of Poseidon, Santorini, Patmos, Crete, Rhodes, and Ephesus.
We have slightly revised the trip for Spring Break 2016. With consideration for getting the best value for our money without missing too much school, we are offering a 10-day trip to Greece and Turkey.
We offered a trip to Greece a few years ago, and it was a great success, particularly the islands! Please take a look at the itinerary online or send me an email if you would like a hard copy. You can also pick up information in my room or in Mr. McCormick's. If you would like to register for the trip, please go to www.eftours.com, then type in the tour number 1668155KK. The total price is detailed for you on line. You can sign up for the trip with a $95 deposit. When you sign up on line, you can choose to pay the company monthly or pay in full, 90 days before departure.
The earlier you sign up the less the monthly payment! We have also included 2 extra activities in the price-a Greek cooking class and a Greek Evening with food and music.

An Esy, Effective Way to Help AMHS |
AMHS needs you! One way to help is to volunteer and help lead the Academic Magnet Foundation. We are a South Carolina non profit corporation, a public charity with 501(c)(3) tax free status. We focus on the future of AMHS - and we need volunteers to help lead the Foundation.
The Academic Magnet Foundation exists solely to help AMHS continue fulfilling its mission. We help AMHS identify and fund academic programs, opportunities and needs. While only in our 2nd year of operations, examples of changes the Foundation has already helped bring to AMHS include adding Chinese language instruction to the curriculum and adding the Summer Scholars program, the new 4-day "freshman orientation." In addition, we created a new outreach effort, connecting via Facebook with AMHS alumni and the greater community to increase both support and understanding for our school: Click here to access it.
Much of the Foundation's work is to develop funding for our school, both from within and beyond our school community, from individuals and from corporate and non-profit sources.
-
AMHS's needs are not just from funding cuts, though those have been a huge challenge. For example, AMHS lost nearly $90,000 annually from cutbacks in state funding alone over the past ten years.
-
AMHS needs funding to remain competitive, to remain among the top schools in the nation. Remaining among the best requires investing in people and programs - creating the best-possible opportunities in public education for our students here in Charleston.
We are seeking nominations for Board and Committee members. Please volunteer. Please take part at our next Foundation Board Meeting on Monday, March 9th @ 6pm in the AMHS media center. (All of Foundation board meetings are public and all can participate.)
If you cannot attend our March 9th meeting, please email us @ AcademicMagnetFoundation@gmail.com.
Please help us help AMHS! Thanks!
