AMHS Spring Break 2016
|

Trace the path of Ancient History! Experience the Acropolis, Delphi, the Temple of Poseidon, Santorini, Patmos, Crete, Rhodes, and Ephesus.
We have slightly revised the trip for Spring Break 2016. With consideration for getting the best value for our money without missing too much school, we are offering a 10-day trip to Greece and Turkey.
We offered a trip to Greece a few years ago, and it was a great success, particularly the islands! Please take a look at the itinerary online or send me an email if you would like a hard copy. You can also pick up information in my room or in Mr. McCormick's. If you would like to register for the trip, please go to www.eftours.com, then type in the tour number 1668155KK. The total price is detailed for you on line. You can sign up for the trip with a $95 deposit. When you sign up on line, you can choose to pay the company monthly or pay in full, 90 days before departure.
The earlier you sign up the less the monthly payment! We have also included 2 extra activities in the price-a Greek cooking class and a Greek Evening with food and music.

Principal Points: February |
Convocation: On Wednesday, January 28th AMHS o pened the second semester with a full school assembly with guest speaker, Dr. Rupert Nacoste, professor of social psychology at North Carolina State University. Following the convocation, Dr. Nacoste met with Juniors in a more informal Q and A session in the Lecture Hall. Convocation is designed to challenge our students' thinking and to motivate them for a successful second semester, and Dr. Nacoste served both purposes with energy and insight. There is an excellent review of the event in The Talon, the AMHS electronic newspaper.
On the Horizon:
Coming Home: Friday, February 6 is "Coming Home" and AMHS will celebrate with a Pep Rally, Senior Night and four basketball games against Bishop England High School. This is always a special event, and we look forward to seeing everyone in the gym on Friday evening. All our teams have been competitive and successful. Come, watch them play, and share in the excitement. JV Games begin at 4:00 PM; Varsity games begin at 6:30 PM.
Selma: As a field experience supporting the students' experience with American literature and history, members of the Junior Class will be viewing Selma as a class and with support from their teachers.
All AMHS students also have the opportunity to view Selma thanks to the efforts of State Senator Marlon Kimpson. The showing will take place Saturday, February 7th at the Regal Cinemas, 2401 Mall Drive. "Students must email Radia Heyward at radia922@aol.com to preregister for the event. Students will be required to show their school ID at the theater."
STEM Premier: During the next weeks AMHS students will have the opportunity to establish an electronic resume with STEM Premier. Teachers will be trained in the program this week and will work through Focus classes to assist any student wishing to establish an online resume which can be updated any time and which will be available to colleges and professional work places. This is an exciting opportunity for our students and will keep them competitive with students across the nation.
Every day at AMHS is exciting and dynamic, and 2015 lies ahead with even more opportunities for growth and development. Thank you for your continuing support as AMHS moves ahead into the second semester of this school year. If we can help with anything, please call us at 746-1300.
