Principal Points: January |
Happy New Year, Magnet! The new calendar year has started off with the challenge of the dark and dreary days, and preparation for mid-term exams. 2015 holds much promise for AMHS and for our students as we await the college acceptance letters and prepare for graduation on June 4, 2015
Special Dates on the Horizon:
January 15 - 19, 2015: MLK Holiday Weekend
January 21, 2015:Report Cards will go home at the end of school.
January 28, 2015: All- School Convocation with Dr. Rupert Nacoste, endowed professor of psychology at North Carolina State University and his insights on human interactions. Dr. Nacoste will address the entire student body and then will engage in a follow-up Q and A with the junior class.
February 7, 2015: PIE Gala Celebration. This is always an outstanding community event, and I look forward to seeing everyone there.
While every day at AMHS is exciting and dynamic, the new year lies ahead with even more opportunities for growth and development. Thank you for your continuing support as AMHS moves ahead into the season of college decisions, final thesis presentations, IGP's and plans for the future. If we can help with anything, please call us at 746-1300.

Athens and the Islands...
AMHS Spring Break 2016
|

Trace the path of Ancient History! Experience the Acropolis, Delphi, the Temple of Poseidon, Santorini, Patmos, Crete, Rhodes, and Ephesus.
We have slightly revised the trip for Spring Break 2016. With consideration for getting the best value for our money without missing too much school, we are offering a 10-day trip to Greece and Turkey.
We offered a trip to Greece a few years ago, and it was a great success, particularly the islands! Please take a look at the itinerary online or send me an email if you would like a hard copy. You can also pick up information in my room or in Mr. McCormick's. If you would like to register for the trip, please go to www.eftours.com, then type in the tour number 1668155KK. The total price is detailed for you on line. You can sign up for the trip with a $95 deposit. When you sign up on line, you can choose to pay the company monthly or pay in full, 90 days before departure.
The earlier you sign up the less the monthly payment! We have also included 2 extra activities in the price-a Greek cooking class and a Greek Evening with food and music. There is a $200 discount for those signing up by December 15, 2014.

The Student Perspective...
by Jennie Schaaf
|
After what felt like one of the longest, most relaxing breaks in a long time, students and teachers were slowly dragged back to the reality of dressing up for class and carrying backpacks and textbooks down hallways. Everyone was thrown back into the swing of things, greeted with looming midterm exams and finals and a precious few class periods to remember how to speak a foreign language or solve a math problem without the aid of notes.
After four days of stressing, cramming, staying awake way past a reasonable bedtime, and walking everywhere with flashcards glued to our hands, the midterm exams are finally over. Now the students can relax, if only for several weeks until AP exam panic sets in. With the end of one quarter and start of another, the promise of a final semester for the seniors and two quarters separating the other grades from summer, it is safe to say that the end is in sight!
