Booster Club Update

It was great seeing all the Raptor Fans at the tailgate party on Homecoming night! Even the heavy rains couldn't drown out the AMHS School Spirit! Many, many thanks to the volunteers, Coach Hoffman, and Mrs. Peterson who helped make the tailgate party a success! It was the beginning of a successful night as our team went on to beat North Charleston.

Next week, JV and Varsity Volleyball, and Girls Tennis are at home. October 11th the Swim team is at the State meet and both Football and Cross Country are away. Go to www.amhsboosterclub.org or find our link on the school's website, under Quick Links, for game dates, times and locations and directions.

We are looking for a volunteer to help with our website. Please email us at info@amhsboosterclub.org if you are interested.

 LEVERAGING SUCCESS

Dear AMHS Community,

With your help, the Academic Magnet Foundation - a 501(c)3 Public Charity solely for the benefit of Academic Magnet High School - is "Leveraging Success" for AMHS!

Last year over half of you took part in our first-ever fundraiser, "Leveraging Success for AMHS." That strong participation enabled the Foundation to fund entirely new programs for AMHS, such as:

  • A Multi-year, College-level Chinese Language Program(taught here on the AMHS campus by a College of Charleston professor);

  • A 4-day, Academic "Orientation" for All Rising Freshmen - the "Summer Scholars Institute." This first year, the Foundation partnered with PIE as a joint-support-group effort to fund "Summer Scholars." (We now seek corporate sponsorships to help fund the long-term commitment to this outstanding program.) AMHS faculty designed "Summer Scholars" to enhance the success of all new students, especially in "STEM" programs (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).

Our 2nd Annual "Leveraging Success" Fundraising Campaign is just getting started! With more of your support, we can aim higher! Our goals are to strengthen AMHS's Foundation with:

  • 75% participation from within our AMHS Community; and

  • $75,000 dedicated solely for the benefit of academic enrichment at our school.

Please participate!   ANY amount meaningful to you will be meaningful for AMHS.

Please remember! Business & "matching" contributions are key to Leveraging Success for AMHS!

PS: Our next meeting - & "Phone-a-Thon" - are set for this Monday, October 13th @ 5:30pm in the AMHS Media Center. As always, all are welcome to participate!

Thank you for your support!

The Student Perspective...by Jennie Schaaf

Any stranger walking onto the Magnet campus on any given day last week would have been in for a shock. There is simply nothing quite like a group of 6 or 7 hundred students who dress unabashedly for a new theme each day with equal enthusiasm for the day's activities. The teachers at AMHS had their hands full with everything from camo-sporting hillbillies to grumpy senior citizens who partied between the bells and came into class riding on school spirit.

The Magnet spirit was contagious throughout the entire week and it carried into the Homecoming game Friday evening. We won again, continuing our longest winning streak in Magnet history of 5-1. The entire week was a great celebration of the personalities of our Magnet family and the perfect party leading up to our football team's victory over North Charleston.

Komen Lowcountry Race for the Cure
October 18, 2014
Family Circle Stadium, Daniel Island, SC
Volunteers play a vital role in the Susan G. Komen Lowcountry Race for the Cure. Their passion and commitment is what makes our Race successful. Today, thanks to more than 100,000 survivors and volunteers/activists, Susan G. Komen is the world's largest, most progressive grassroots organization fighting breast cancer.

There are two ways you can volunteer for the Race:
We are always looking for volunteers to help with pre-Race planning, organization and marketing. If you are interested in helping us pre-Race, please contact volunteer@komenlowcountry.org.  It takes hundreds on Race day to provide the best experience to our participants. If you are interested in volunteering on Race day, please check back in August to view Volunteer shifts.
