THE RAPTOR REPORT
October 1st Symposium for Parents to Aid in the College Search Process

Parents, does the thought of the college search process send chills down your spine or leave you feeling overwhelmed? Do you wonder how you can best help your student navigate the journey from AMHS to finding the college environment that best meets their individual needs? On October 1st please join us as we hear from Maria Furtado of Colleges that Change Lives (http://www.ctcl.org/) as she shares her insights about how we can help our students navigate the college search process. Maria's talk will then be followed by brief chats from Admissions Representatives from the University of Chicago and Pomona College. They will be discussing college essay writing and how to be a stand out college applicant.

Doors open at 6:00, with light refreshments served in the Arts Hall from 6:00-6:25.

There are a few items we are still in need of to make this a successful night. Please  click here for a list of needed items.

The speakers will begin immediately at 6:30 in the Lecture Hall. We look forward to seeing you there!

"Finding the Right College for You" Is the Theme for October 1st Symposium for Students

Students...are you currently in the midst of writing essays, taking standardized tests, hunting for recommendation letters or polishing your college rsum? Do you find yourself thinking, dreaming, and contemplating the college application process? Are thoughts of finding the "perfect" school circulating through your mind even though graduation is one, two, or three years away? If any or all of these scenarios sound eerily familiar then our Convocation and Career Symposium is just what you need!

Take a deep breath! October 1st, Maria Furtado, from Colleges That Change Lives http://www.ctcl.org/, will share with you her expertise in finding the right college fit for YOU! Who knows...maybe her insights will change the way you are thinking about college and the college application process. After Convocation, the Career Symposium begins in AMHS classrooms, where you will listen to your choice of speakers from a wide variety of fields. These leaders in the fields of medicine, science, law, engineering, business, art, film, academia, journalism and more will share their own educational and career journeys while offering insights into areas of study that may interest you. Juniors and Seniors will have a special focus session on essay writing from an Admissions Representative from University of Chicago.

It is bound to be a great day...one that just might change your life.

Hello Raptor community,

My name is Megan DeLorenzo and I am a senior student at AMHS. As part of my senior thesis work, I am in need of willing participants from the community to complete a brief survey.
The purpose of this survey is to determine impediments to pet spay/neuter programs specific to the Greater Charleston area, and aims to provide potential methods for improving the success of local spay/neuter programs in their efforts to reduce shelter overpopulation. Click here for the survey link.

Thank you, your participation is greatly appreciated!

Thank all of you for volunteering and supporting AMHS students and faculty during the start to this fantastic school year.

SIC (School Improvement Council) is a SC state mandated group comprised of Principal Judith Peterson, AMHS faculty, student representative, parents, and community leaders. The purpose of SIC is to plan, report, and ensure school performance. SIC meets monthly and our meetings are open.  SIC's calendar year starts in October and we will need volunteers to fill open positions. If you are not able to attend the monthly meeting and serve as a member, please consider volunteering your time and talent for one of the SIC committees. The committees include:

  • Freshman Health Series
  • Communications
  • School Needs
  • Senior Thesis/Academic Competition
  • Diversity
  • 5-Year Strategic Plan

The next SIC meeting is Wednesday, October 15th at 5pm in the conference room behind the front Administrative desk.  Please feel free to email me with any questions.
