PIE Directory
|
If you made any direct changes to one of the 2 copies of the 2013-2014 school directory at registration, please email them to me at (nzkiwi@comcast.net). One of those example directories disappeared from the PIE Membership table on sophomore day and I have no way to see your corrections.
If I don't hear from you, I cannot change your entry. If you picked up a 2013-2014 copy of the directory during registration, please put it in an envelope addressed to Robyn Bradley and leave it with the school secretary, Ms. Duckett.
Thanks, Robyn Bradley, PIE Membership and Directory

AMHS Senior Jessica Wright Elected Governor at Palmetto Girls State
|

Jessica Wright, a senior at Magnet, attended the American Legion Auxiliary Palmetto Girls State this summer, which was held at Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC from June 8-14. Jessica attended alongside over 600 other rising seniors who elected her Governor of Palmetto Girls State! Prior to being elected governor, Jessica was elected Mayor of Tate City. On June 13, the citizens of PGS joined the citizens of the American Legion Palmetto Boys State and marched in a parade in Columbia, where Jessica met SC Governor Nikki Haley and then was sworn into office by SC Supreme Court Justice Costa M. Pleicones. Jessica made a lot of great friends from all across SC, enjoyed a deeper feeling of patriotism, and sparked an interest in politics that appears to be redirecting her college and career goals.
Palmetto Girls State is a one-week leadership and citizenship training program, created to educate outstanding high school students about state and local government and citizenship. The delegates, who are rising seniors in high school, are selected for the program based on the leadership skills and involvement they have shown in their respective schools and communities.
Cassidy Rindge, a senior at Magnet, also attended Palmetto Girls State.

AMF Update
|
OVER HALF THE AMHS COMMUNITY TOOK PART IN OUR 1ST YEAR!
Your Academic Magnet Foundation (AMF) is now established & aiming higher.
AMF exists solely to help Academic Magnet High School continue fulfilling its mission. We work with AMHS faculty, leadership, and support groups to highlight academic needs - and provide long-term funding to fulfill those needs.
2013 investments include:
-
Chinese language - adding an entirely new, college-level language program to the AMHS curriculum, with a minimum 3-year funding commitment;
-
Summer Scholars Institute - adding a 4-day academic/orientation program for all AMHS freshman - created by AMHS faculty, directed by Ms. Tonya McIntyre & Principal Peterson. Here too, we made a minimum 3-year funding commitment - partnering with PIE the first year; seeking corporate sponsorships for ongoing funding.
Other 1st year highlights include:
- Establishing bylaws, good governance & achieving IRS determination of 501c3 ("tax deductible") status.
-
Creating online portals for community & alumni outreach:
-
Surpassing fundraising goals - over 52% participation & $70,000 raised for AMHS in our 1st year.
-
Establishing the AMHS School Needs Committee - which highlights investment needs under the direction of AMHS faculty & Principal Peterson (and with counsel from SIC & PIE).
2014 investments are focused on "STEAM" & professional development programs - and we aim to create more diverse & greater funding. This year our goal is 75% participation from our AMHS community.
GET ON BOARD! Get involved to make AMHS all it can be. Volunteer! Take part! Upcoming opportunities include...
-
Next meeting - Monday, Sep. 22nd
-
Next month - Our 2nd annual, "LeveragingSuccess" campaign.
Thank You!

Participants Needed in Public Opinion Survey
|

Hello Raptor community,
My name is Connor Frailey and I am a senior student at AMHS. As part of my senior thesis work, I am in need of some willing participants from the AMHS community to listen to my brief informative presentation on nuclear power followed by a ten question survey (total time: 30 minutes). Your survey responses will help me determine public knowledge and opinion regarding nuclear power.
I will be holding the presentation in the lecture hall on Tuesday September 23 at 3:30pm. Snacks and drinks will be provided and students or parents of students are welcome to attend. Please contact me if you can participate at connorfrailey@gmail.com or at my phone number 843-814-1575. Also, feel free to speak directly to myself or Mrs. Renes. Thanks all and I hope to see you there!
