THE RAPTOR REPORT
Congratulations AMHS Baseball on Fantastic Season

The AMHS Raptors baseball team finished undefeated in their region with a hard fought 2-1 victory over Battery Creek! Jake Sossamon mystified hard-hitting Battery Creek with a mix of blazing fastballs and biting curves-striking out 9 batters over 6 innings. Connor Woods shut down the Dolphins in the 7th to get the save. Ryan Berlinsky had the big bat for the Raptors, with a single, a double, a run scored and an RBI. Adam Ackerman used his lightning speed to leg out a single, steal second, and score the winning run in the 6th inning. Connor Woods reached base twice, and Jake Sossamon and Josh Isaacks also had hits for the Raptors.

The victory ensures that the Raptors will host at least two playoff games on their home field-so come out and support Raptor Baseball Nation on Thursday, May 1st and Saturday, May 3rd!  Nothing helps drive in Raptor runs like fans in the seats!

Hannah Gourdie Receives 3rd Place Honor for Thesis in S.C. State Competition

Congratulations to Hannah Gourdie who recently won 3rd place at the South Carolina Psychological Association's 2014 Annual Conference in Myrtle Beach. Her thesis, under the guidance of Dr. Jeannine Monnier, was entitled "Religiosity and Alcohol Expectancies in High-Achieving High School Students". Hannah was the only high school participant to compete against several undergraduate projects. AMHS is very proud of your accomplishment!

AMHS Teacher And Staff Appreciation Week Is April 28th - May 2nd

We are still collecting gift cards to treat our teachers and staff. Please send one $10 or $20 gift card to school in an envelope labeled Mrs. Linnie Duckett, Teacher Appreciation. Please send these in by Friday, April 25th. We are looking for restaurants, movies, yogurt, ice cream, coffee, gift stores, clothing stores, or anywhere you enjoy going (except grocery!).

Thank you to all who have volunteered to send food, etc. for the luncheon on Tuesday, April 29th. Please send food in something that we can serve in (but not fine china!) with your name and student's name taped to the bottom. Students may deliver the items to Mrs. Duckett that morning or you may drop them at the front desk, or the cart by the bus loop after buses leave. We would like to have all donations by 11:00am. All serving dishes will be washed and put in the teacher's lounge for students to pick up.

Thank you,

AMHS TEacher and Staff Appreciation Committe

CPR/AED Training Available

Dear AMHS students, faculty, coaches,  and families,

In a joint effort by PIE and SIC we are partnering with CharlestonCPR to have as many students, faculty, coaches, and parents become certified in CPR and AED use. PIE has purchased 20 AHA books that will be in Linnie Duckett's office to sign out for 5 days at a time for free. You must have the book to attend the class. PIE has also agreed to pay for tuition for AMHS teachers that attend the training.

You can click the link below to register and sign up for a class. MAKE sure you put AMHS in the comments. The preferred class for CPR/AED training is Heartsaver CPR/AED Course. If there is a specific group of 20 students/teachers/parents from AMHS that would like to block out a 3 hour class on a Saturday, Charleston CPR will accommodate.

By attending the class, you will receive education from a Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician, you will receive certification at the end of class, and you will be certified to use an AED and perform CPR.

The cost is $35 for students/parents/coaches.  The book may be used free for 5 days and must be returned for the future students use.

Thank You for Prom Help

Parents - Prom was wonderful and it wouldn't have happened without the help and support of our parents.  A HUGE thank you to all who brought food, helped set up, donated items (especially the chocolate fountains - thanks Ms. Krzyzaniak and Ms. Spyropoulos) and ran to the store for needed items for us at the last minute (that would be Ms. Dubois)!  We had a really big turnout and all the students seemed to enjoy themselves.  Of course, they all looked so gorgeous all dressed up - it is a treat for the faculty to see them in all their finery!  Once again, many thanks for partnering with us to make the prom an event your child will always remember. In 2015, prom will again be held at the aquarium on April 25. Tickets are $35 per single, $65 for couples. Til next year....
