CPR/AED Training Available

Dear AMHS students, faculty, coaches,  and families,

In a joint effort by PIE and SIC we are partnering with CharlestonCPR to have as many students, faculty, coaches, and parents become certified in CPR and AED use. PIE has purchased 20 AHA books that will be in Linnie Duckett's office to sign out for 5 days at a time for free. You must have the book to attend the class. PIE has also agreed to pay for tuition for AMHS teachers that attend the training.

You can click the link below to register and sign up for a class. MAKE sure you put AMHS in the comments. The preferred class for CPR/AED training is Heartsaver CPR/AED Course. If there is a specific group of 20 students/teachers/parents from AMHS that would like to block out a 3 hour class on a Saturday, Charleston CPR will accommodate.

By attending the class, you will receive education from a Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician, you will receive certification at the end of class, and you will be certified to use an AED and perform CPR.

The cost is $35 for students/parents/coaches.  The book may be used free for 5 days and must be returned for the future students use.

MDA Muscle Walk Scheduled for March 29th

Please help support one of our own and the Muscular Dystrophy Association at the MDA Muscle Walk at the River Dogs stadium on Saturday, March 29th from 11am-2pm.

Caleb Sizemore, an Academic Magnet junior, has organized a Muscle Walk team to help raise funds for MDA research for Duchennes Muscular Dystrophy (the disease which affects him) and to raise awareness of the impact of neuromuscular diseases (such as Duchennes and ALS, which is Lou Gehrig's disease) on so many individuals and families.  Please come join Caleb, friends, family, and dozens of other teams in the non-competitive walk around the stadium to support those with muscle diseases.

MDA is a voluntary health agency that funds cutting-edge neuromuscular disease research; ensures that all Americans affected by these diseases receive treatment and critical care; and serves as a voice for families with neuromuscular diseases.  MDA has built the nation's only neuromuscular clinic network, with over 200 MDA clinics, which provides expert treatment for those with neuromuscular diseases.  MDA also provides free summer camps designed specifically for kids with muscle diseases.

Academic Magnet raised over $1,000 last year for MDA, through contributions to Caleb's Muscle Walk team and through MDA Shamrock sales.  Caleb and his family and friends have raised over $4,900 so far this year for his Muscle Walk team.

You can join his team and can donate to his team at this link:  Caleb's Cure.  Sign-up and donation forms are also available in Mrs. Colon's, Ms. Novinger's, and Mrs. Kelly's room.

Please join us - and help us to Make a Muscle and Make a Difference.
