THE RAPTOR REPORT
Principal Points: March

judith

Believe it or not, there are only 11 weeks remaining until the Class of 2014 graduates on June 4, 2014, and the days will fly by. The AMHS guidance and administration have already begun work on the next school year with IGP meetings, and students will begin the registration process for next year on March 25th and 26th. Both Mrs. Mettler and Ms. Taylor have been meeting with students and parents to insure that next year's schedule will be challenging and still manageable.

On Thursday, March 6th we will meet with the students who will be 9th graders next year, and as a group they come from 35 different schools with the highest test scores and GPA's to date. We are excited to have them join the AMHS family as we send our seniors off to schools across the country.

As we prepare to close out an outstanding school year, we approach also the AMHS "testing season" which begins next week with the National French Exam followed by the National Spanish Exam. The rest of the season continues through June 3, 2014:

March 18:      ACT for Grade 11

April 1, 2, 3:   HSAP Testing for Grade 10

May 5-15:       AP Tests

May 16:          AP Picnic and Battle of the Bands

May 19-21:    End of Course Tests for Grades 9, and 11       (English I, Biology I, US History)

May 16-21:    Senior Exams

May 29 & 30: Underclassmen Exams

June 2 & 3:    Underclassmen Exams

June 4:           Graduation 11:30 AM

The testing season is extremely busy and demanding, but it is part of our program, and the students will be well-prepared for each test. If you have any questions about the next weeks, please call us at 746-1300. Thank you for your continued support of our efforts to offer the best possible academic program we can.

Buy Your Tickets to the Dream Big Auction Event by March 7 to Avoid Price Increase!
Remember, if you cannot attend the auction, you can donate your ticket(s) to faculty.  Our goal is
100% participation, through ticket purchase, sponsorship, auction item donation, help setting up or during the event.

Our thermometer shows that we are up to 70% participation and getting warmer every day! Click here to purchase tickets, donate faculty tickets or make a donation.
Attention Parents:
AMHS celebrates
Pi Day on Friday, March 14th this year. Every student must participate in some type of activity. Mu Alpha Theta, the math honorary, provides awards for 12 different categories such as "Best Poster" and for "Reciting the Most Digits of Pi" from memory.

We need donations for prizes.  Examples of great donations are puzzles, games, gift cards (iTunes, Target, Fleet Feet, Starbucks, etc.) and other quirky fun gifts. We also need donations of actual pies to sell at lunch on Friday. We would also appreciate disposable plates, napkins, and forks.

It would be great if you could send in your donations of non-perishables at your earliest convenience and send in pies on Thursday or Friday of next week.

We also need a few parents to volunteer and help serve and sell pies at lunch. If you are willing to volunteer and help, please email me and I'll provide specifics.

Email me with questions or concerns and thank you in advance for your support.

Join the Heart of the Lion Team in the Walk for Water

Every day, millions of women andchildren in developing countries walk miles to retrieve water for their family's daily needs. In most cases, even after their long, difficult, and tiring trek, the water they have to drink is contaminated. Not only is water extremely heavy, many times the journey can be dangerous due to kidnappers, wild animals and rough terrains.

Water Missions International is changing this situation through the partnership of individuals, businesses, churches, and others.

Join the Heart Of The Lion Team!

The Heart of the Lion Team honors the life of Marley Lion and is again joining together to make a difference.  Largely due to the AMHS family last year we were the #1 team, raising over $16,000. To date our team represents over 100 of the more than 800 registered walkers! Won't you join us?

Marley graduated AMHS in 2012. He was an accomplished guitar player, songwriter, and a favorite at our annual Talent Shows. He played lacrosse and basketball. With many of his classmates he planned to attend Clemson in the fall, intent on studying international business and minoring in Cantonese. On June 16, barely three weeks after graduation, he was tragically and senselessly murdered by two thugs.

Thousands of people begin the walk with an empty bucket (provided) in Cannon Park, downtown Charleston. The walk weaves it's way through beautiful, historic Charleston all the way to the water front at White Point Gardens (The Battery). When participants reach The Battery, they fill their buckets with water and return to Cannon Park. This 3.5 mile walk gives participants a glimpse of what people do all over the world on a daily basis.

Sign up for the Heart of the Lion Team at WaterMissions.org/walk. Click Join a Team and enter Marley Lion. Donations are welcome and can be made on this page as well.

Thank you for being a part of Water Missions International's Walk for Water. Together, our steps will save lives!
