THE RAPTOR REPORT
Principal Points: December

     judith

As the 2013 calendar year comes to a close, AMHS is alive with the energy of Senior Thesis presentations, with the rush of the college application season, and with the frenzy of the new admissions. Although Magnet is always active and energized, this time of year is especially "charged," and this level of excitement will stay with us until the holiday break which begins at the close of school on Thursday, December 19, 2013.  School will resume on January 6, 2014.

Special Dates on the Horizon:

January 6, 2014: Rohan Shirali, a recent AMHS graduate will perform with his male a cappella group from Washington University, St. Louis. Rohan and his group will perform for AMHS at 12:45 and for SOA at 2:00.

January 8, 2014: Junior Parent Night at AMHS. 6:00 PM in the Lecture Hall. The guidance counselors will discuss the PSAT scores, the coming ACT test in March for all Juniors, the first steps in the college application process, and the websites that can assist with the college search. It's an important evening; please, set it aside now.

January 22, 2014: All- School Convocation with Jennifer Pharr Davis, author and challenger of the Appalachian Trail. Ms. Davis holds the record for the fastest time to hike the full length of the trail, and she will spend the day with us sharing her experiences and insights.

January 31, 2014: AMHS will sponsor a pre-showing of the documentary Reject, a film about ostracism and how we as educators, parents and students can assist those feeling "rejected." Please be on the lookout for additional details for this special event co-sponsored with members of the Psychology Department of The Citadel.

Every day at AMHS is exciting and dynamic, and the new year lies ahead with even more opportunities for growth and development.  Thank you for your continuing support as AMHS moves ahead into the season of college applications, thesis presentations, holiday activities and plans for the future. If we can help with anything, please call us at 746-1300.

Happy Holidays, Magnet!

We wish everyone a very special holiday season!

seeking leaders & participants of all kinds -

Your new Foundation has over 52% of the AMHS Community participating, and raised over $60,000.  Now, we're needing more leadership people to help decide how best to invest, create more funds, and craft a long-term plan to leverage the success of AMHS.

Do you have ideas about what AMHS needs most & about how best to build funding?

With the counsel of PIE, SIC and Principal Peterson, the Foundation agreed to focus its first investments on helping AMHS develop its foreign language program into one of "global citizenry" and further develop STEM programs (science, technology, engineering & math).

>  Can you help decide which investments are best for helping AMHS fulfill its mission?

>  Can you help create more opportunities through grant applications and corporate development?

>  Can you help lead as a member of the 2014/2015 Board of Directors - or of the School Needs Committee?

If you said "YES!" - then please email:

ALL Foundation Board meetings are OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. You are welcome to take part. The next meeting is @ 6PM Jan. 6th!

Magnet Seeks Ideas for Successful Auction

Friends,

Although the annual auction is 3 months away, the work has already begun. This year we are taking the theme of our Celebrate Magnet event "Dream Big" to heart as we want to ensure that we have items that are worth dreaming about. In order to ensure that we have quality live and silent auction items, we need your help. Please send us an email with your ideas as to the items and services you would be most likely to bid on at the auction.  So don't be shy, let us know that you have always wanted to have a catered dinner atop the Ravenel Bridge, or host a private shopping experience at Berlin's with 12 of your closest friends complete with cocktails and appetizers, or Be Principal for A Day of the best high school in SC!

We thank you in advance for your input, connections and time making sure this year's auction is a success. We know that together we will make our big dream a reality, and that AMHS students will continue to receive and benefit from the exceptional education provided by the outstanding faculty and administration.

We look forward to hearing your ideas!
