Principal Points: Thanksgiving Thoughts |
Happy Thanksgiving!
As noted in an earlier message, Academic Magnet High School epitomizes the spirit of the holiday season with generous support of key activities including Lowcountry Food Bank, Operation Christmas Child, Families Helping Families and Thanksgiving baskets for every student at Liberty Hill, our neighbor school. AMHS students, faculty and parents have accepted the challenge that "to whom much is given, much is expected," and as a community we have exceeded our goals to assist others and to honor the spirit of the season.
Thank you, students, parents, teachers and supporters. I wish you all a very special holiday and the joy of family and friends.
Judith Peterson, Principal

A Note of Thanks
|
Dear AMHS Community:
We are delighted by all the great events at AMHS during the Fall. We are grateful as a community for the generosity of time, talent and giving for our important and diverse events. We are thankful for PIE's (Partners in Education) hard work on the college fair, the international dinner, teacher appreciation activities, and we look forward to the DREAM BIG event in March. We are thankful for SIC's (School Improvement Council) continued work and support of school activities such as the senior seminar, convocation, 9th grade health speakers, and diversity initiatives. We are thankful for the AMHS Booster Club's ongoing support of our athletic teams with the tailgate suppers and Raptor advertising. We are thankful also for the community's support of the AMF (Academic Magnet Foundation) as it works to raise funds to help secure the future for AMHS in STEM education and Global Studies.
As current chairs of these parent organizations, we have a joint vision and commitment to serve our children's school and to help AMHS soar to new academic heights and to DREAM BIG.
Thanking you for your continued support and wishing you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving,
Christen Hall, PIE
Darlene Rawls, SIC
Camille Butler, AMHS Booster Club

GIVING THANKS |
We are thankful for the support from the overall AMHS Community - from students and families and to our many educators, specialists and administrators, each of whom strives to enhance the success that is AMHS.
Thanks to you, our first year's fundraising has become a great success!
- Your donations exceeded our financial goal by more than 20% - more than $60,000 so far has been raised for academic program development at AMHS.
- Most importantly, a significant percentage of our AMHS Community - almost 45% so far - helped fund the Academic Magnet Foundation this year. That is a powerful message to include in our grant applications, and the percentage participation can compel local & larger businesses, philanthropies and non-profits to fund our school too.
To our teachers, specialists, and administrators - please know that your success as educators is what makes fundraising possible. Your work is the "fulcrum" at the center of our LeveragingSuccess Campaign. The Academic Magnet Foundation exists to help AMHS continue fulfilling its mission of educational excellence. However, the faculty and staff of AMHS invest themselves the daily effort to fulfill that mission.
With great thanks to you all! ...from your 2013-2014 Board of Directors of the Academic Magnet Foundation: Doug Berger, Stephen Howe, Susan Leadem, Jimmy Rawls, Ken Ryan, Hallie Seibels, Lisa Short, Scott Shubert, Jennie Smith, and Cliff Woods. Together, we are LeveragingSuccess for AMHS.
