Please Send $10 Grocery Store Gift Cards for Teachers by Friday, 11/22 |
We have only received a few gift cards so far. If you would still like to participate, please send a card in tomorrow, OR email campcammie@gmail.com to let her know that you plan to send one in on Monday (and how many, what kind, etc). They are to be distributed on Monday. We are collecting these to thank our wonderful teachers and staff, and to help them add to their Thanksgiving tables. Please place $10 cards in an envelope labeled: Ms Linnie Duckett, Staff Appreciation. Please send $10 cards only so that we can combine evenly if we have extras.
Thank you for your continued support for our hard working AMHS teachers and staff!

Magnet Seeks Ideas for Successful Auction |
Friends,
Although the annual auction is 4 months away, the work has already begun. This year we are taking the theme of our Celebrate Magnet event "Dream Big" to heart as we want to ensure that we have items that are worth dreaming about. In order to ensure that we have quality live and silent auction items, we need your help. Please send us an email with your ideas as to the items and services you would be most likely to bid on at the auction. So don't be shy, let us know that you have always wanted to have a catered dinner atop the Ravenel Bridge, or host a private shopping experience at Berlin's with 12 of your closest friends complete with cocktails and appetizers, or Be Principal for A Day of the best high school in SC!
We thank you in advance for your input, connections and time making sure this year's auction is a success. We know that together we will make our big dream a reality, and that AMHS students will continue to receive and benefit from the exceptional education provided by the outstanding faculty and administration.
We look forward to hearing your ideas!

Members of the AMHS Music Club Deliver a Wonderful Performance |
This past Saturday (November 16th), members of the AMHS Music Club performed at Franke at Seaside Lutheran Homes of Mt. Pleasant. The program included a wide variety of pieces, from Bach to contemporary pop. The residents at Franke loved the program. One senior resident said, "It's so great to see these young people play so wonderfully. They are so passionate about their music." The fact that these students can excel at school AND find time to pursue their musical interests makes them truly unique. These students are hardworking and dedicated in all that they do. Keep up the good work!

Honors Drama Presented Children's Theatre |
On Tuesday, November 19, and Thursday, November 21, Honors Drama presented the Children's Theatre: plays which students wrote for the children K-3 and a Hearing Impaired class from North Charleston Creative Arts Elementary School.
Small people and their teachers came to the Lecture Hall each of the two days to see results of: * researching the development children and their entertainment *writing & revising scripts
*using elementary content provided by NCCAE teachers
*learning to direct, block & rehearse *working creatively with space and time limitations
*learning lines & developing character
*technical tasks from set design & construction to costume/props, lighting, sound, projection & special effects
*rehearsal process
*production process including welcome & transition speeches
Audiences included faculty members who had planning and got to see our AMHS students in a light perhaps never imagined! Pigs, a yam-loving vegetarian wolf, droplets arguing their way through the water cycle, helpful animals, famous Americans struggling to write their speeches, time travelers, Career Day & Community Helpers - all there on stage!
This effort culminates weeks of work for the class who participate in all aspects of creating the shows. I am so very proud of my students' hard work! Teresa M. PirchEnglish Department, AMHS

Support AMHS Yearbook with a Business or Tribute Ad
|

Successful businesses aim to make the most of every advertising dollar. You have the opportunity to do this and at the same time support an outstanding educational experience for students at Academic Magnet High School. Your ad will be printed in over 500 books, each of which is read and widely circulated among family and friends. A yearbook is kept for a lifetime - your ad will be seen over and over. See the attached form for information and rates, or contact Larissa Bortz at larissa_bortz@charleston.k12.sc.us.
Parents: Make Their Yearbook Personal and Special!
The end of the school year may be months away, but now is the time to plan your lasting message to your son or daughter in the 2014 AMHS yearbook. A yearbook tribute ad is the perfect opportunity to acknowledge your student's achievements and leave a personal message in a book they will keep for a lifetime. PIE Notes
Our PIE Gala/Auction Committee Co Chairs, Susan Kilpatrick and Heidi Brown, have been hard at work organizing the myriad parts that will culminate in the FUN and EXCITING Spring GALA! Save the date! March 22nd 2014!
The Core group from last year has promised to pull together to re-create many of the programs that made our Celebrate Magnet event a huge success last year. Here are some areas where we need your help (remember the adage that many hands make light work?!)
- Organize the initial mailing to gain SPONSORS; beginning in shifts that will meet at the school 1- 4 pm in mid Dec. Any one hour will help us! Look for a sign up genius next time in the Raptor Report
- Donation Helpers! We will have the forms available on line soon, but we need dedicated creative thinkers to gather items for the Live and Silent Auction.
- Contact skilpat@bellsouth.net or hsbrown@bellsouth.net
The PIE Board Meeting will be TODAY at 4 pm, in the Conference Room. All are welcome to attend. There will NOT be a Raptor Report next week to give our hard working Editor, Cathy Cocolas a break! I am thankful for so many things, Cathy's fine job as our Raptor Editor, is high on the list! All who volunteer their time to help our incredible school make the list too of course!
Have a wonderful week and a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Christen Hall, PIE President

Basketball Season is Just Around the Corner! |
The AMHS Booster Club needs your help. Basketball concessions are a large source of the Club's revenue used to support all of the Raptor sports programs. We are in need of a Concessions Coordinator and volunteers to help run the concession stand during basketball games. Please reply to jlansink88@comcast.net if you are able to help.
