THE RAPTOR REPORT
Magnet Cross Country Team Takes State Title

The AMHS Boys Cross Country team captured the school's first Cross Country State Championship on Saturday November 11th in Columbia. The boys placed five runners on the All -State team and won by posting the lowest point total in 17 years for SC AA Cross Country.

The team was led by Junior Trace Hall who finished 4th.  He was followed by Dylan Robinson (6th), Hayden Dibona (7th), Kyle McGue (9th), and Durham Foster (12th) who made the All-State team. Seniors Danny Christensen and Sam Butler rounded out the team and provided the leadership that guided the team to reach their goals.

"I am very excited for the guys who worked very hard for this. I am thankful for the support that the team has received this season from the AMHS community and look forward to building on this in the future."
-Brian Johnson AMHS Boys CC Coach

Boys Make History for Academic Magnet

Trace Hall

Hayden Dibona and Trace Hall are the first two AMHS students to be on separate athletic teams to win state championship titles. They both set personal records at the state swim meet earlier this fall and helped the team obtain the state victory (it was the 2nd year in a row for the Raptors to win the state championship in high school swimming). They also were a part of the State Champion Cross Country Team.

"Hayden and Trace were the top two runners throughout the season for our cross country team. Earning All-State honors and leading our team to a State Championship were great achievements considering they also had to balance their running with swimming. Fortunately swimming and running compliment each

other and stress the same body system but in different ways. Both boys worked very hard but did a nice job in taking care of recovery to balance the workload and have success in both sports."  - Coach Brian Johnson

The Student Perspective
by Jennie Schaaf

This past Friday, Magnet had the honor of attending a performance by the United States Naval Academy's Women's Glee Club in commemoration of Veteran's Day. While we were initially happy to just have shortened classes, the event was inspiring and left everyone talking about the concert and the Academy for the rest of the day.

The talented women also shared our lunch and spread themselves around the tables in the cafeteria. They were all very friendly, interested in learning about our school, and patient enough to listen to all of our questions. Many people agreed that this was a significantly better convocation-style meeting than others in the past, not only because of the incredible music, but also the insight into what it takes to get into the Academy.

In addition to performing, the women recognized the two AMHS seniors who were accepted to the Naval Academy, allowing the rest of the student body to appreciate their hard work. With a blend of both modern and traditional music, the Women's Glee Club impressed everyone who witnessed their performance and continued to demonstrate their amazing personalities throughout lunch.

Raptor Youth Rowers Wrap Up Successful Season

Congratulations to the Raptor Youth Rowing Club, who attended the Head of the South (H.O.T.S.) Regatta in Augusta, GA this past weekend.  All four boats had awesome races, and we placed 1st in two of the events and also won an award for the fastest single boat of the day. This was a great way to wrap up our fall season; our team is already beginning training for the spring sprint season. Congratulations Raptor Youth Rowers!

Stingray Tickets Available through AMHS Boys Lacrosse

The Boys lacrosse team is selling Stingrays tickets to the December 14th game. The ticket price is $12 and they can see anyone of the Boys Lacrosse players to purchase them. It is a fundraiser for the team and any contributions would be helpful.

Leveraging Success

JUST TWO WEEKS TO GO!

Great news! Your new Foundation already met one of our Campaign Goals.  With just 30% of School Families participating so far, we raised more than $50,000 for AMHS!

...But a big challenge remains:  We need many more AMHS families to help compel local and larger businesses, philanthropies and others to invest in AMHS!

We need a majority (over 50%) to truly "tip the balance" for AMHS.

THANK YOU!

ALL Foundation Board meetings are OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. You are WELCOME. The next AMF meeting is @ 6PM Dec. 6!

PIE Notes

As the weather cools and the Fall Sports wind to a close, I guess we are all tucking into a routine? I'm so amazed, when I visit the school, (by working the front desk) to see how relaxed and confident our student body appears.

I hope that all of your students are enjoying their time at Magnet.

YESTERDAY (for Freshmen and Seniors) and TODAY (for Sophomores and Juniors) your PIE  Board is thrilled to provide an ICE CREAM and Healthy Fruits "party" for all who made the A/B Honor Roll. Feel free to come out and help or observe, it begins at noon.

Our next PIE Board meeting is Thursday Nov 21st at 4 pm. We will be discussing what some of our teachers would like to have for their classrooms, as well as what plans our student body has for their various trips and activities. We are so glad to have had your generous support that allows us to fund these items. Come next Thursday and hear how it works, we meet in the conference room in the Main (entry) building.

Have a wonderful week!

Christen Hall, PIE President
Say Thanks(giving) to Teachers and Staff with Grocery Store Gift Cards

To thank our wonderful teachers and staff, and help them add to their Thanksgiving tables, the P.I.E. Staff Appreciation Committee is collecting $10 grocery store gift cards. Please send a card or 2 in to the office in an envelope labeled: Ms Linnie Duckett, Staff Appreciation by Wednesday, November 20. Please keep them in $10 increments(if for some reason they are not $10, label with the amount). If we have extras, we'll combine them for a more generous gift.

Thank you for continuing to support our hard working AMHS teachers and staff!
