THE RAPTOR REPORT
Principal Points - November

judithNovember already, and AMHS students are preparing for the season of "giving," and the spirit of sharing our good fortune is certainly evident. The Student Council has sponsored a can drive for the Lowcountry Food Bank, and it is estimated that AMHS has collected over 3000 pounds/2, 547 meals of food for others. Overall, it has been a great campaign for AMHS.

This season of giving will continue with a number of activities including Operation Christmas Child sponsored by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and a Thanksgivng Basket project to support the 70 students at Liberty Hill School, our campus neighbor. Focus Classes are being asked to bring in specific items to complete a full Thanksgiving dinner basket for each child at Liberty Hill. This drive is sponsored by the AMHS Girls Lacrosse Team, whose coach teaches at our neighbor school.

In addition to these activities, our Student Council will be spearheading a very special project in December-Families Helping Families. This is a really exciting project, for each Focus Class will adopt a family for Christmas and prepare a collection of needed items and special surprises. The shopping and wrapping that is done for this project heightens our awareness of local needs and offers all our students the opportunity to support those less fortunate. This project, along with other fund raising that is done at AMHS, serves to remind us that "to whom much is given, much is required." We have often spoken of this with respect to the education available at AMHS, and during this season we have the opportunity to reflect on it with regard to our local and global community.

Academic Magnet High School is highly energized now and working well to meet the academic challenges and the challenges of fundraising and supporting others in need. If you would like additional information on any of these endeavors, please contact us at 746-1300.

On a second front, diversity at Magnet is a topic for discussion, and the school leadership and CCSD leaders have started serious conversations about diversity at the school and academic challenge across the District. As ideas are discussed and plans, if any, are formulated, I will keep our school community informed. This is indeed an exciting time to be a member of this lively and community-focused school family.

As always, thank you for your support of the AMHS program and the "Magnet" community.

Stingray Tickets Available through AMHS Boys Lacrosse

The Boys lacrosse team is selling Stingrays tickets to the December 14th game. The ticket price is $12 and they can see anyone of the Boys Lacrosse players to purchase them. It is a fundraiser for the team and any contributions would be helpful.
