The Student Perspective... by Jennie Schaaf |
Cultures from all over the world were represented this past Saturday at AMHS's International Dinner. The Dirty Birds kicked off the evening by playing for half an hour as people filtered in and set the tone of the night. The Juniors set up a table full of delicious desserts to raise money for Prom later in the year as representatives of various countries brought in their native dishes. Beginning at 6, people flowed through the lines, trying food from the diverse spread of countries. REACH club sold Pulsera's, colorful bracelets made by people Nicaragua, as a way to support the designers of the beautiful bracelets, and many people were seen walking around sporting one or two of them. Several performers entertained us including Selina Pi on the piano, a French horn quartet, and a large ensemble comprised of saxophone, cello, violin, flute, piano, drum, and guitar players. Emily McGee, Rachel Biggs, and Haley Mae Campbell played guitar, Janelle Green sang a few songs, and Hunter Heidenreich wowed everyone with two original guitar pieces. People wandered between countries ranging from France to China, Greece to India, and Israel to Italy, or gathered on the couches in front of the makeshift stage. The diversity of talented musicians as well as the delicious food made for another amazing event at Magnet!

SC Traffic Rules Updated Regarding School Buses |
South Carolina traffic rules were updated this summer. You are not allowed to PASS a school bus when its YELLOW FLASHERS are activated. This includes when it is slowing to stop. If it's flashers are on, either yellow or red, you must not pass and come to a stop as the bus stops if traveling in the same direction. The penalty for not stopping is $1,000 fine, six points and loss of license. Additionally, there is no exception for railroad tracks, so if a bus is stopped at a set of railroad tracks with its flashers on, you must stop also.
For the exact wording of the ordinance go to http://www.scstatehouse.gov/code/t56c005.php and find section SECTION 56-5-2770.
