THE RAPTOR REPORT
Principal Points
judith
The school year is off to a terrific start! We had our annual
PIE Open House on Wednesday, September 11. This was an excellent opportunity to learn about the activities PIE has planned for the year, to meet your student's teachers, and to learn of the academic expectation for the school year.

School Improvement Council: SIC will resume meetings this month, and the committee will add two parent members this Fall. If you have an interest in serving AMHS in this capacity, please email me or Darlene Rawls (cusabo2@bellsouth.net)

Convocation and PIE Parent College Awareness Night: Dr. Elizabeth Wisner- Gross, nationally recognized author and authority on college admissions, will be at AMHS on September 18 for a keynote address to the entire student body. She will spend some time with the seniors and with the guidance department and administration. In the evening, she will present for parents and guests at 6:00 PM in the cafeteria. This is an outstanding opportunity brought to AMHS through the efforts and support of PIE, and I hope everyone will come at 6:00 PM to hear Dr. Wisner-Gross.

Other Coming Attractions

Code Red Lockdown Drill: In keeping with the District's emphasis on school safety, AMHS will conduct a campus-wide Code Red Lockdown Drill on Friday, September 13 at 8:30 AM. During this drill students and visitors may not enter or leave AMHS. Assisting AMHS with the drill will be officers from NCPD.

Interim Grade Reports will be sent home Monday, September 23, 2013.

College Appreciation Day will be held again this year early in October, and representatives from colleges will be at AMHS to assist students in completing applications. This event, organized by Ms. Neloms, will return again to AMHS, and we look forward to a great day.

Homecoming: Spirit Week, Pep Rally, Football Game and Homecoming Dance will take place September 30 -October 4th, and it is always a wonderful week at Magnet.

Admissions Timeline for 2014 - 2105: Applications for the next school year will be on the CCSD and AMHS websites beginning September 21, and the applications must be at AMHS by November 1, 2013. (This is a major change.) Specific information will be forthcoming to both CCSD and non-CCSD middle school principals.

International Dinner: October 19, 2013 Please save this date and join the AMHS students, parents and teachers for a wonderful evening of multi-cultural dishes and entertainment. This is always a special event for the AMHS community.

Graduation: Graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2014 will take place June 4, 2014 at 11:30 AM at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center.

Again, we are "up and running" on the school year and look forward to serving you and your student as best we can. Thank you for your continuing support!

Update on 2014 Spring Break Trip to England, Scotland, & France

We're going to England, France, and Scotland for Spring Break!  If you would like details about the itinerary and cost, go to www.eftours.com  and type in tour #1229635.

Students from any grade are welcome. On this tour, students will gain an understanding of history and culture throughout the ages.  Edinburgh's medieval castle recalls Scotland's royal traditions, while the scenic landscapes of Stratford, Chester, and the Lake District give a glimpse of the rural life.  In London and Paris, students will discover impressive monuments and museums that reflect two world powers.  Our last 2 days will be spent exploring WWII history along the D-Day beaches of Normandy.

If you have questions or would like more information, please let us know.  You can contact us at Mary_Altman@charleston.k12.sc.us or call 810-1291.
