Raptors Lacrosse Wins Ret Thomas Sportsmanship Award

The 2013 AMHS Women's Lacrosse Team has been awarded the Ret Thomas Sportsmanship Award. This recognition of good sportsmanship is given annually to the school whose lacrosse team, by the vote of the officials and umpires for the South Carolina High School League, best exemplifies the highest standards of sportsmanship consistent with the tradition of lacrosse.

Raptors Successful in James Island Tri Series

While the rest of their schoolmates were busy doing summer work, the members of the Academic Magnet Triathlon Club continued to swim, bike, run and compete in triathlons.

The Charleston Sprint Triathlon Series is five triathlons held between May and August at James Island County Park. Many Magnet students won or placed in their age groups during the individual triathlons throughout the summer. The top finishers earned points and those who competed in at least three of tris were eligible to win the Series Championship.

Sophomore Hayden DiBona was the overall Series winner in the Open division, competing against top male athletes of all ages.

Other Raptors who won their age divisions were Carter Brzezinski (10-15 Males), Cassidy Rindge (10-15 Females), Trace Hall (16-19 Males), and Kristen Phlegar (16-19 Females).

Placing in the championship were: Emma Crowfoot (2nd in 10-15 Females); 16-19 Females  Elizabeth Mappus (2nd), Micah Norton (3rd), Sierra Zardus (4th) and Gwyneth Bradley (5th); and 16-19 Males Jake Tucker (3rd) and Jakob Obenaus (4th).

In addition, Laura Eicher, who advises the club with her husband, Murray, and Krista Cornehl, came in second in the 35-39 age group.

The club plans to continue training and competing this school year.
August 2013More than 20 members of the Magnet Triathlon Club participated in the Aug. 11 Charleston Sprint Triathlon, which was the series championship

We also perform other tasks while at the desk to help out the staff, such as mail organizing and conference scheduling. We have 3 shifts per day from 8am-3:30pm. If you are interested in being a part of this group, please email amhsofficevol@gmail.com or call Lisa Short at 697-3240 for more information.
