THE RAPTOR REPORT
Principal Points

Counting down...only 6 more days until school opens on Wednesday, August 21st.

Teachers have returned this week and have begun to work on curriculum planning as teams of teachers. With this focus, we are confident that our students will have equitable experiences with the courses taught by more than one teacher. It will help ensure that each student will experience similar content, similar delivery and common assessments. With some of the schedule teaming that we did with math and science and English and social studies, the master schedule is tight and focused for student support and achievement. Therefore, we will not be able to move students easily; however, we believe that this schedule's emphasis, coupled with the work the teachers have begun, will contribute positively to an outstanding educational experience for every student.

AMHS is also scheduled this year for HSTW/SACS evaluation, and we expect that this work will forward our efforts for a strong presentation of our liberal arts program and our common vision. In short, we are off to a really good year and expect to serve every student well. Thank you in advance for your support of our efforts to continue to strengthen AMHS.

Two brief, but important, reminders:

School start time is now 8:10 AM!! Students should plan to arrive at school by 8:00 AM.

School dress code has adjusted the cutoff for shorts and skirts to mid-thigh, and shirts must have a shoulder width of at least 3 inches. I realize that these adjustments may seem tough, but AMHS is a community of boys and girls, men and women, and everyone is entitled to feel comfortable and able to focus on the academic experiences offered.

The Arrival/Dismissal Plan is shown below to assist with the driving patterns on the campus. Our SRO, Officer Snipes, will help us every day with monitoring campus speed limits and adherence to the driving plans, which are designed for safety and the efficient flow of traffic. (The bus is still best!!)

Volunteer Opportunities
WELCOME DESK VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY
If you are looking for a low-key way to become involved at AMHS, this is a great option. Volunteers staff the welcome desk daily when classes are in session. We are primarily responsible for answering the AMHS phone and greeting guests. We also perform other tasks while at the desk to help out the staff, such as mail organizing and conference scheduling. We have 3 shifts per day from 8am-3:30pm. If you are interested in being a part of this group, please email amhsofficevol@gmail.com or call Lisa Short at 697-3240 for more information.

FOOTBALL CONCESSIONS COORDINATOR
The football team is looking for someone to coordinate the concession stand for the football games for the 5 home games at the Danny Jones Field.  The team will supply volunteers to cover the concessions, but is in need of a coordinator. If you are able to help please email Sydney Delanty at sdelanty@comcast.net.

PIE Update

Registration was a great success thanks to the efforts of our PIE parent and student volunteers!  Thank you especially, to Robyn Bradley, who didn't miss a minute of the four days of registration, and has worked diligently to organize the Memberships and Directory information.  I am so appreciative of all who give their time and energy to help our school succeed on so many levels!  Open House will be held on Thursday September 11th in the Caf beginning at 6 pm.  Parents will pick up a copy of their students classes and have an opportunity to follow their schedule and meet the teachers.  PIE will give a report on our budget and our plans for the coming year, and everyone will cast their vote to approve the budget.  We will have several tables open for parents to join PIE and link up to other ways we can help our wonderful school, staff and teachers.  Look to purchase our new "Top Ten in the Nation" car MAGNET and the new 22 oz. TUMBLERS with unique art by nationally acclaimed FOM (Friend of Magnet) artist Tate Nation!  Don't miss the Open House, and keep checking the Raptor Report for news of all the exciting events we have planned to keep parents "In the Know".  I'm looking forward to a really terrific year!
