The Anniversary Gala event, orchestrated and hosted by PIE on March 23, 2013, was a wonderful evening for everyone. I would like to extend a special THANKS to all who worked so hard and purposefully to design and bring to life such a memorable night! It was truly a great time for AMHS. Thank you, AMHS parents, for your support at this event and with all we are trying to do for our students.
"Spring" does seem to be here finally, and that means the AMHS community is racing toward graduation for the Class of 2013 on June 6, 2013 at 8:30 a.m. in the North Charleston Performing Arts Center. However, in our race are three key hurdles with which we really need your help:
- IGP's: Each and every student at AMHS is required by state law to meet personally with a guidance counselor to complete an Individual Graduation Plan. As of today we still have many students at each grade level who will need an IGP completed before mid-May. If you need to schedule an IGP, please email one of our guidance counselors. amy_neloms@charleston.k12.sc.us or anna_lamb@charleston.k12.sc.us.
-
HSAP Testing: HSAP is the state's test assessing academic skills and is required for graduation. We need help with monitors for the testing, which will take place next week, April 16, 17, and 18. We need about 8-10 volunteers each day from 7:45 AM to 11:45 AM. If you can help us, we would really appreciate it. (Parking in the teachers' parking area will be provided.)
-
Parent Survey: the Parent Satisfaction Survey opens today. Charleston County School District is committed to becoming a premier school district in the state of South Carolina and the nation. It is our continuous goal to gather data from stakeholders to determine where we are as a district and to set realistic, measurable goals for continuous improvement. We are asking each parent, a vital stakeholder in the development of our educational community, to complete the survey, so we can assess our strengths and our areas for improvement. The survey can be accessed online at
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/CCSD_Parent_4_2013.
Once these three hurdles have been successfully crossed, we will continue the race to graduation with a host of student academic experiences and events. The calendar is full, and I will continue to add to it as activities are planned.
April 16: Guitar Symposium April 16-18: HSAP Testing for Grade 10 April 19: Student Council "Jam" 3:30 - 5:00 PM April 27: Prom at the Montague Terrace Room May 6-16: AP Tests May 17: AP Picnic and Battle of the Bands May 17-22: Senior Exams (Tentative) May 21-24: EOC Tests (English I, Biology and US History) May 30-31: Underclassmen Exams June 3-4: Underclassmen Exams June 2: Baccalaureate June 6: Graduation 8:30 a.m.
Please make a note of all these events. We will keep you posted with details as each activity comes up, but I wanted everyone to have an idea of some of the key events that lie ahead. I encourage you to check the AMHS Website calendar and to call the office if you have a question about any activity.
Thank you for your continued support of our efforts to offer the best possible academic program we can.

Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week is April 22-26!
|
WE NEED YOUR HELP TO SAY TO OUR FACULTY & STAFF
Each day during Appreciation Week we will provide a little treat or surprise for our hard-working teachers and staff.
Currently, we especially need food donations for the teacher luncheon on April 23, as well as donations of gift cards for the teachers & staff (see below for further information). If you have food suggestions for the luncheon, please contact Cammie Camp Cammiecamp@comcast.net. In order to make this a spectacular week, please help us by: 1. Sending a gift card to something fun that you love: a restaurant, store, coffee shop, you name it. We gave grocery store cards away for Thanksgiving--this time we want to treat staff to something they might not spend money on without a gift card. We will combine cards if we have extras and give each teacher a little goody bag of cards! Cards can be $10/$20/or $30. MAKE SURE THAT THERE IS A NOTE ON THE CARD THAT TELLS THE VALUE! Please send cards in to Mrs. Linnie Duckett (her office is next to Mrs. Peterson's) as soon as possible! The donation deadline is Monday, April 15. 2. Donating/baking/cooking for the luncheon on Tuesday, April 23 at 1:00 p.m. We try to make this luncheon very special, since one of the downsides of being teachers is that they can't have a nice luncheon out. We'd like flowers for the tables, pretty disposable plates, napkins, etc. and fresh, delicious lunch foods. After Spring Break, I will post a list of needs, but you can email me today if there is something you'd like to make or donate. If you would like to join the committee in helping with this special week, please email cammiecamp@comcast.net, or call with questions, 442-5515. Any and all help/ideas are welcome. Thanks, Cammie Camp

Working together to take AMHS to new heights
| Dear AMHS Community, We are delighted about the recent outpouring of enthusiasm demonstrated by the huge success of the Celebrate Magnet PIE Auction. Community wide fundraising efforts such as this help our school towards its annual financial needs and help AMHS provide the best possible education. We want to take this opportunity to highlight the coordination of efforts between AMHS's principal, SIC(School Improvement Council), PIE(Partners in Education), and the newly formed AMF(Academic Magnet Foundation). We, as the current chairs have a joint vision and commitment to serve our children's school and to help AMHS soar to new heights.
