THE RAPTOR REPORT
CELEBRATE MAGNET A HUGE SUCCESS

Celebrate Magnet 2013 Thank you to the community of AMHS parents, staff and friends for all your support, and thank you to everyone on the auction committee who worked so hard on this event! The 25th Anniversary celebration held on March 23 was a magnificent party and a fabulous fundraiser - a record breaking number of people attended the event (and even more bought tickets!), and we raised over $100,000!!  What a marvelous gift to your children at AMHS!!

Celebrate Magnet 2013 If you were not able to participate in the event or if you feel so inclined, we are offering one last chance for you to make a donation to Celebrate Magnet - just click below. The money will help fund the teacher wish list items - such as science equipment, foreign language headphones, math department I-pads, media center camcorder, and many other worthy items.

Again, we have enjoyed working with so many wonderful people and want to thank everyone who participated in any way for your generous support!

Presidential Scholars honored with luncheon
On Monday, March 18, Ms. Debbie Counts and Mr. Keith Barksdale of the College of Charleston celebrated the 29 Presidential Scholars of Academic Magnet High School. The College provided a wonderful lunch for the students, spoke to them as potential leaders of our state, and honored each one with a Presidential Scholar Certificate. The Media Center was transformed into a "presidential suite" by Media Specialist Susan Henley. It was a memorable event for each student and all participants.

Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week is April 22-26!
We need your help. Each day we will provide a little treat or surprise for our hard-working teachers and staff. In order to make this a spectacular week, please help us by:

1.  Sending a gift card to something fun that you love: a restaurant, store, coffee shop, you name it. We gave grocery store cards away for Thanksgiving--this time we want to treat staff to something they might not spend money on without a gift card. We will combine cards if we have extras and give each teacher a little goody bag of cards! Cards can be $10/$20/or $30. MAKE SURE THAT THERE IS A NOTE ON THE CARD THAT TELLS THE VALUE! Please send cards in to Mrs. Linnie Duckett (her office is next to Mrs. Peterson's) as soon as possible!  The donation deadline is Monday, April 15.

2.  Donating/baking/cooking for the luncheon on Tuesday, April 23 at 1:00 p.m. We try to make this luncheon very special, since one of the downsides of being teachers is that they can't have a nice luncheon out. We'd like flowers for the tables, pretty disposable plates, napkins, etc. and fresh, delicious lunch foods. After Spring Break, I will post a list of needs, but you can email me today if there is something you'd like to make or donate.

If you would like to join the committee in helping with this special week, please email cammiecamp@comcast.net, or call with questions, 442-5515. Any and all help/ideas are welcome.

Thanks,
Cammie Camp
It's time to register for the 2013 Raptor Classic Golf Tournament
THANK YOU to all who volunteered to be academic mentors!
Thesis season is well underway for the current AMHS class of 2014. We would like to sincerely thank everyone who volunteered to be a part of the AMHS Academic Mentor Database. This database will greatly help advisors and students in future years to identify potential mentors for thesis projects and academic competitions. Some mentors who volunteered for a specific project were not contacted by an advisor IF the advisor or student had already secured a mentor. These generous offers to serve as a mentor are deeply appreciated, and your information will be included in the database for future projects unless you wish to have it removed.*

If you have not submitted your information but would like to be included in the database, please email either Holly Mitchell jmitchell172@comcast.net or Sue Woods woodswest@me.com.

*Being in the database is not a commitment to be a mentor but rather a commitment to be contacted about potentially being/identifying a mentor.
