3rd Annual Pi Day Celebration
Thursday, March 14, 2013
|
Spring means that it is time for Pi Day. The purpose of PiDay is to celebrate our math curriculum, prove that math is fun, and to promote math awareness.
What can you do?
We need donations for prizes for the many competitions that take place. Gifts that are quirky, geeky, etc. are welcomed and encouraged. We also need iTunes cards, gift certificates for Barnes and Noble, running/athletic stores, Starbucks, etc. Any small gift you would like to donate would help us. All proceeds from Pi Day go to Mu Alpha Theta, the math honorary. We use these funds to pay for math competition fees and travel.
Thanks for your support.

Academic Magnet High School Inaugurates Board to Establish Foundation
|
The Academic Magnet Foundation was launched on February 26, 2013 with an inaugural board of ten directors aiming to create a non-profit institution to support funding needs and expand elective education for North Charleston based Academic Magnet High School, one of the top magnet high school programs in the country. The Foundation will work quickly to apply for necessary approvals to operate as a 501c3 registered non-profit institution. The Foundation will seek community donations and grants to support the intermediate and long-term goals of the school administration.
The Academic Magnet High School began in downtown Charleston 25 years ago and now shares the Bonds Wilson Campus with School of the Arts in North Charleston. Academic Magnet principal Judith Peterson stated, "I am delighted that the Academic Magnet community is both supportive of our current programming and committed to enhance our educational offerings by establishing the Academic Magnet Foundation."
The inaugural board members include Doug Berger, Stephen Howe, Susan Leadem, James Rawls, Ken Ryan, Hallie Seibels, Lisa Short, Scott Shubert, Jennie Smith and Cliff Woods.

Interested in joining a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) this spring?
|
The AMHS Wellness Committee with the help of Lowcountry Local First and Rosebank Farms is offering parents the opportunity to participate in the Rosebank Farms spring CSA.
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) has become a popular way for consumers to buy local, seasonal food directly from a farmer. Here are the basics: a farmer offers a certain number of "shares" to the public. Typically the share consists of a box of vegetables, but other farm products may be included. Interested consumers purchase a share (aka a "membership" or a "subscription") and in return receive a box (bag, basket) of seasonal produce each week throughout the farming season. This is a great way for your family to get healthy local produce directly from a family farm and support our area farmers!
Best of all, if at least 30 people from AMHS and/or SOA sign up for this CSA, Magnet will be a drop spot for the food each week. Just think... you can pick up your kids and get fresh veggies at the same time!
SHARE SIZES & PRICES
Small Bag: Perfect for 1-2
Medium Bag: Ideal for family of 4
Large Bag: Best for a large family or to can
and/or freeze in-season produce
Small $220 per season or $660 annual
Medium $330 per season or $990 annual
Large $440 per season or $1,320 annual
