Mentor survey to be released soon; please participate

Dear Parents and Friends of AMHS:

As our school has grown so has the need for mentors for the senior thesis, science fair, robotics projects and other academic pursuits. The School Improvement Council (SIC) is working with the faculty to help identify potential mentors. In the next few days, you will receive an email linked to a survey designed to help us create a database of potential mentors and their areas of expertise. We encourage you to consider adding your name to this database as a potential mentor, or pass along the survey information to others you know who could serve as mentors.

Best regards,

Holly Mitchell & Sue Woods

Support the Raptor Triathlon Club - Bike Donations Needed!!!
Road race-cycling The Academic Magnet is proud to announce the inaugural Raptor Triathlon Club led by teachers Murray and Laura Eicher and student leaders Micah Norton and Alex Parler. Our goals for the club are to introduce students to the sport and develop their skills in each of the three continuous and sequential endurance disciplines. Over twenty students are already involved and have begun training for our first event, the Try Charleston Sprint Triathlon scheduled for April 20, 2013 in Mt. Pleasant. We will also focus on preparing the students for the Charleston Sprint Triathlon Series at James Island County Park this summer.

Our main challenge for this club is that most students are attempting this sport for the first time and do not have the necessary equipment needed for the biking portion. If you or someone you know has a
road or triathlon bike which is languishing in the garage...please consider donating it or selling it (at a student friendly price) to someone on our triathlon team. (Unfortunately, mountain or cruiser bikes are not appropriate for this club.) We could also use smaller bike related items to help equip our student athletes (listed below).

Water Bottles
Water Bottle Cages for the bike
Bike Lube
Bike Tubes/Tires
Helmets (required for participation)
Bike Shoes (road bike or triathlon...along with the clip-less pedals)
Bike pumps

We will also take monetary donations to buy equipment for the team. Any equipment donated will not be given to a specific student but will be used by the entire club for years to come. Receipts will be given for tax purposes.
Contact Murray_Eicher@charleston.k12.sc.us or Laura_Eicher@charleston.k12.sc.us if you have items to donate or if you have items you would like to sell!

Thanks so much.

PLEASE DONATE ITEMS TO THE AUCTION!
PIE LOGO
We need your donations to make Celebrate Magnet's 25th Anniversary event on March 23 the best auction ever! Can your business make a donation? Can you ask a business, store, restaurant or hotel that you frequent or that your friend owns to make a donation? Can you ask your neighbor to make a donation? Do you have a vacation home or a contact who can arrange an exciting adventure? Click here for the donation form. Forms are also available at the AMHS front desk and in Ms. Duckett's office. EXCITING WAY TO HONOR EDUCATORS
Announcing star educator flags for sale @ CCSD By the time most students graduate from high school, they will have spent almost 10,000 hours with their teachers. While this year's An Evening with the Stars Winter Gala:  International Indulgence will honor all school-based Teachers of the Year, our OTE team would like to invite students, families, community members, and fellow educators to recognize any and all of those educators who have provided them inspiration and motivation. It seems most everyone has a story about an educator who has touched his/her life!

Therefore, cloth flags from various countries will be personalized and displayed at this year's gala to honor educators. Flags may be purchased for $5 each and will include a special message (50-word limit) to/for those educators selected by students, parents, fellow educators, and/or community members. After the gala, flags will be provided as special gifts to honored educators.

Those interested in purchasing a minimum of two flags ($10) may visit www.ccsdschools.com and click on the 2013 ANNUAL WINTER GALA link on the right-hand side of the page and then click HONOR AN EDUCATOR; you may directly link to the donation page at: http://www.razoo.com/story/Star-Teachers . One flag ($5) may be purchased by calling April or Cherie at 843.937.6418.
