Act Locally - Be Part of the Academic Magnet Foundation!
Would you like to be part the new Academic Magnet Foundation (AMF)? D o you know someone who would be a great contributor ...as a Board Member, as a Committee Leader, as an advisor or general participant? We are reaching out to the Academic Magnet High School and greater Charleston Communities in search of the best people to reinforce the success of AMHS through the establishment of this new Foundation.
While many are already familiar with the nascent AMF, our Vision Statement can help clarify, as can our partnership and role relative to Partners in Education and School Improvement Council. In short, we all - AMF, PIE and SIC - work together to support of the mission and vision of Academic Magnet High School.
BE A PART OF IT! AMF's FIRST Board of Directors & Initial Committees
There are many ways you can help! We seek candidates for the inaugural Board of Directors (BoD) of the Foundation with the 1st election planned for late January 2013. We also seek leadership members for the initial committees of the AMF. Click to see the Board of Director and initial committees
We need committed, qualified participants - "Do-ers" - of all kinds with all manner of skills, including people with strategic planning expertise, fundraising (educational and otherwise), legal, and accounting professionals; people with general financial expertise; people with experience in grant procurement; expertise in education; expertise in marketing, communications, in website design/management. The list goes on.
Why Do We Need It? AMHS needs a 21st century media center with more comprehensive research materials such as digital databases, e-books and even hardbound books. (F
or example, an independent "Collection Analysis" of the AMHS media center's hard-bound collection indicated a deficiency of over six thousand titles.) The Foundation will form a Needs Committee to assess, vet, and recommend specific investments; however, initial research indicates that AMHS needs additional investments of at least $10,000 per year if only just to fund additional online databases for academic research.
AMHS also needs more resources to expand its elective educational programs- and to pay for basic educational materials and school supplies - needs not adequately provided for by the State or the Charleston County School District (CCSD). (A simple summary, Funding 101, shows recent funding cuts to AMHS's basic operating budget.)
How Do I Sign Up? What Else Should I Know?
If you want to be a candidate for the Board of Directors -- or if you want to nominate someone else for the BoD, please complete this Nominations Form. Please also take time to understand responsibilities that BoD Members must undertake: for example, all Directors must agree to this The AMF Bylaws lists required Board Member, Executive Committee and other positions, and is publicly available for your review. Please note that the Foundation Bylaws require the BoD to have not less than seven (7) and not more than fifteen (15) members. Please also note that the selection and appointment of committees, advisory boards, and other positions will be one of the first responsibilities of the first-elected Board of Directors - and that appointees will largely be identified by replies to this request for candidates.
Thanks for Being a "Do-er"!
