Principal Points
| "Whatever we build ends up building us." These words of Jim Rohn will direct both our reflection and our sense of purpose for the coming year.
Family Enrichment Night: On Wednesday, January 23 PIE will sponsor a really special evening of seminars designed to strengthen our understanding of issues confronting our high school students and families. Alcohol/Drugs and the Teenage Brain, Eat Right for Life, Paying for College, and College Admissions: Insights for a Successful Application are the four topics for this evening, and the design of the evening will allow parents and students to attend two sessions. I urge everyone to take advantage of this exceptional evening of educational workshops.
On the Horizon: Academic Magnet Foundation: Please check out the AMF tab on our website for information about this opportunity to support AMHS into the next generation of students. This is very exciting, and we are eager for everyone to know about the foundation. Coming Home: January 25 is "Coming Home" and AMHS will celebrate with a pep rally and a night of basketball games. This is always a special event, and we look forward to seeing everyone in the gym on Friday evening. All our teams have been competitive and successful. Come, watch them play, and share in the excitement. JV games begin at 4:00 pm; Varsity games begin at 6:00 pm. Traffic Concerns: Last week brought some arrival problems we have not experienced in three years. As plans are developed to reduce the glut of traffic on Montague Avenue, please be patient. We will keep our community informed as decisions are made,
Every day at AMHS is exciting and dynamic, and 2013 lies ahead with even more opportunities for growth and development. Thank you for your continuing support as AMHS moves ahead into the second semester of this school year. If we can help with anything, please call us at 746-1300
Happy New Year, Magnet!

EXCITING WAY TO HONOR EDUCATORS
|
By the time most students graduate from high school, they will have spent almost 10,000 hours with their teachers. While this year's An Evening with the Stars Winter Gala: International Indulgence will honor all school-based Teachers of the Year, our OTE team would like to invite students, families, community members, and fellow educators to recognize any and all of those educators who have provided them inspiration and motivation. It seems most everyone has a story about an educator who has touched his/her life! Therefore, cloth flags from various countries will be personalized and displayed at this year's gala to honor educators. Flags may be purchased for $5 each and will include a special message (50-word limit) to/for those educators selected by students, parents, fellow educators, and/or community members. After the gala, flags will be provided as special gifts to honored educators. Those interested in purchasing a minimum of two flags ($10) may visit www.ccsdschools.com and click on the 2013 ANNUAL WINTER GALA link on the right-hand side of the page and then click HONOR AN EDUCATOR; or they may directly link to http://www.razoo.com/story/Star-Teachers . One flag ($5) may be purchased by calling April or Cherie at 843.937.6418.
