Belmont To Open On Wednesdays

Beginning July 6, Belmont and the Stafford County Visitor Center will again be open seven days a week, from 10 am-5 pm each day. In 2009, state budget cuts and a declining economy forced the museum's closing for tours and events one day per week. But recent increased visitor and renter interest has helped staff make the decision to return to a full schedule, which will both increase revenues and eliminate confusion about operating hours.
Meghan Pcsolyar appointed Special Events Manager

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Meghan Pcsolyar to the position of Special Events Manager.  Meghan succeeds Betsy Labar, who retired at the end of June after 11 years as Special Events Manager and 21 years with Belmont.

Meghan has served as Belmont Special Events Assistant since January 2015, helping schedule and oversee all private rentals of Belmont facilities and organizing special events for the public and Friends of Belmont.

A native of Stafford, Meghan is a graduate of Sweet Briar College, where she began working on special events including campus and private organization fundraisers. She later was a development intern with the William Byrd Community House in Richmond and Community Impact Intern at the Rappahannock United Way.

John Smith Chesapeake Trail Cross Markers

A small granite marker recently installed below the Summer House marks the approximate spot of one of the famous "Maltese" crosses seen on Captain John Smith's 1612 map Virginia Discoverd & Discribed.

The John Smith Chesapeake Trail Cross Markers program, organized by the Chesapeake Conservancy, plans to mark twenty-four of the cross sites with stone markers.

Created by Congress in 2006 to commemorate the routes of Smith's explorations of the Chesapeake, the Captain John Smith Chesapeake National HistoricTrail is the nation's first national water trail.
Woodland Hike
Sunday, July 31, 2 pm

Conducted by Virginia Master Naturalists, these free, informative walks cover a mile of trails in both woodlands and fields and also touch on the historic ruins of Belmont's past. Please wear sturdy footwear. Meet outside the Visitor Center.
