Belmont Portrayed Opens to Full House

Over 150 artists, Friends of Belmont and guests attended the January 29 opening reception for Belmont Portrayed, generously sponsored by long-time Belmont supporters Wayne and Lucy Harman.

During the evening, guests cast their ballots for their favorite artwork, which kicked off the People's Choice voting that will determine the four cash awards provided by the Nicky Seay Charitable Fund. The winners will be announced after our Spring Open House, April 10.  The show is on view through April 17.

Our 5th Annual Beeping Egg Hunt for visually impaired children and their families is scheduled for Sunday, March 20.  Bring your basket and join us for an egg hunt, refreshments, miniature animal petting zoo, crafts and Touch a Tractor. Please RSVP to Education and Communications Manager Michelle Crow-Dolby at [email protected] or 540-654-1851. FLYER

The Snail flower, Vigna caracalla, as seen in the WSJ.
Greetings!

A reminder that the museum and Stafford County Visitor Center will be closed Easter Sunday, March 27.  The woodland hike scheduled for that day has been cancelled.

Here's an interesting Wall Street Journal article about heirloom flowers for all you gardeners!  Belmont's garden features several heirloom plants, including the Caracalla Bean Vine (aka Snail Flower) the article highlights.

Another article I'd like to share includes Gari and Corinne Melchers as one of five couples whose romantic stories "shed light on the complex and compelling history that makes Fredericksburg a destination like no other."
