BELMONT PORTRAYED OPENS JANUARY 23
Belmont Portrayed celebrates the 40th anniversary of Gari Melchers Home and Studio by featuring art works by local and regional artists depicting the buildings and grounds of the Melchers' country home. More than 50 works by 37 artists were selected by Belmont director David Berreth from 110 pieces submitted by 56 artists. The images range in size from 4x6 inches to 2x3 feet and include works in oil, watercolor, pen and ink and pastel, among other media. Cash awards provided by the Nicky Seay Charitable Fund will be determined by public vote in the gallery during the run of the show, which is on view until April 17. Admission to the exhibition is included with regular museum admission. The public is invited to a preview reception to meet the artists on Friday January 22, from 6-8 pm at Belmont.

A Warm Farewell to Susie Schran By Director David Berreth
Susan Taylor-Schran, Belmont's Visitor Services and Museum Shop Manager for over 15 years, is retiring at the end of January. Over the years, Susie has grown the museum shop into the premier non-profit store in the region by creatively drawing on the art and collections of Gari and Corinne Melchers for inspiration. And she has shared her passion for literature by creating a book inventory that draws a loyal following from those who still love the idea of holding the real thing. During her tenure, Susie has also overseen advertising for the museum, using her talents as a photographer and graphic designer to create myriad print ads and exhibition posters. Her author book signings have always been popular, and her champagne welcomes in the visitor center during our holiday events are legendary! She has built a welcoming team of visitor center staff who are consistently lauded by visitors for their knowledge and courtesy, all stemming from her dedication to our guests and their experience. Susie's most recent accomplishment was the publication of the full color book, Selected Works by Gari Melchers, which she conceived and edited, and then supervised design and production. The book is a suitable and lasting legacy for a supremely talented and loyal member of the Belmont family. Thank you Susie!
