At Taylored Expressions, we love to learn new techniques, polish up on old favorites, and be inspired by the creativity of designers from around the crafting world.
Today we have a tutorial from designer Kay Miller, who shares
how to use pens to transform plain die-cut elements into something special.

Check out Kay's step-by-step tutorial on how to easily add some pizazz to your die-cut creations as shown in the above card:

Step 1: Create a card base and die-cut all of the pieces you will need to create the card.

Use a circle die or punch to cut the circle from the center of the blue die-cut panel.

Step 2: Using the black pen, add dots and dashes and detail lines to the edges of the die cuts. Kay added some leaf lines to the leaves and a little more detail within the flowers.
(Note: Kay used a Zig Millennium Black 05 and a Uniball Signal Broad White Gel Pen on her project. Try experimenting with your fine tip and gel pens for results that work best for you.)

Step 3: Using the white gel pen, add more detail to all the different die cut pieces.
(Kay's tip: there are no rules to how to do this. You can add lines and dots wherever you feel they are needed. If you mess up one, you can always cut out another one.)

Step 4: After you have added all of the detail to the die cuts, arrange the die-cut elements and assemble the card using adhesive and foam tape.

Below is the finished card. First, without the enhanced die-cuts. Second, with.
