| | Meet The New CEO of Gateway Council | |
Today we welcome Mary Anne Jacobs, the new Chief Executive Officer of Girl Scouts of Gateway Council!
Previously, Mary Anne served as Senior Director of Government Relations for Time Warner Cable's Southeast operations. She held several positions, including Vice President and General Manager of operation centers in South Carolina and Senior Director of Public Relations for the Carolinas.
 A Girl Scout through high school, she holds fond memories of marching with her Brownie troop in Memorial Day and Veterans Day parades in Blairsville, PA. Mary Anne is settling in to Jacksonville with her husband, Jeff. Her daughter is a nursing student at University of South Carolina. Mary Anne's son and daughter-inlaw and three very active grandsons live in Simpsonville, SC. She looks forward to partnering together, as parents, volunteers and Girl Scout staff, to develop strong, confident and courageous girls and women. |

Now through June 16
Renew your membership online by June 16 and receive these two patches and a chance to win a $50 gift certificate* for your troop and a $100 gift certificate* for your Service Unit!
The Early Bird 2013 patch celebrates your work in renewing your troop's membership in a timely manner and the "Love the Earth" online registration patch recognizes your commitment to saving our precious natural resources by registering online. Patches will be distributed via your July Service Unit Meeting.
In addition to these beautiful patches, by renewing your troop's membership by June 16, 2013 you are entered into our Early Bird drawing in which five lucky troops will be awarded a $50 GSGC gift certificate*. Troops must register at least five girls and two adults to qualify for the drawing.
All Service Units with a minimum of 75% participation in Early Bird Renewal will be entered into a drawing in which five Service Units will win a $100 GSGC gift certificate*.

Sandra "Sam" Tysver, our friend and Chief Executive Officer will retire in June 2013.
Join us at one of two Open House events and wish Sam well as she begins her retirement - May 13 in Jacksonville, or May 14 in Gainesville.

Calling All Girl Scout Daisies
Our final Daisy Fun Day of the spring season is
Sunday, June 2 at North Fork Leadership Center.
This perennial favorite program is run by our teen Program Aides, who will take the girls on a hike, sing fun songs, play games, and show them how to make a craft.
Registration is open and we welcome all Daisies - Make new friends and join the fun!

| Smile Camp |
SMILE Camp is a unique Girl Leadership resident camp experience, as well as a day camp for elementary aged children with disabilities. Any girl who is currently completing 8 -12th grade this year is eligible to apply for a camp counselor position.
Counselors learn to interact and care for children with moderate to severe disabilities, as well as gain the leadership experience of running a week long day camp alongside their fellow girl leaders and camp directors. Camp dates are June 24 - 28 at North Fork Leadership Center.

| Girl Scout Cookie Sale is a Wrap! |
A Special Thanks to the girls, volunteers and Girl Scout families for another great Girl Scout Cookie Season! More than 7000 girls participated in the Cookie Sale and earned proceeds to help fund their troops' activities.
Troops are encouraged to use a portion of their proceeds to renew their Girl Scout registration for the upcoming membership year. This will ensure the girls are ready for activities in the fall, including the 2013 Fall Product Sale, which begins in September.

New Adult Recognition

Girl Scouts of the USA has aligned Adult Recognitions with the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. With this change comes an exciting new award opportunity for volunteers who help girls and adults. The new award is titled: Volunteer of Excellence. This award addition means the retiring of two awards: "Outstanding Leader" and "Outstanding Volunteer." Please refer to page 107-108 of Volunteer Essentials for more information on the Volunteer of Excellence award.

Awards Nominations Due
June 30
It's that time again to nominate that special volunteer in your service unit/area who has shown outstanding service to your area or other areas of the council. Board Approved awards such as the Appreciation Pin, Gateway Council Award, Honor Pin, Thanks Badge, Continue Excellence Award and Thanks Badge II, are due on June 30 to the Jacksonville Service Center.
Committee Approved Awards such as the Volunteer of Excellence, Exceptional Leader and Tenure Applications will also be due by June 30 to the Jacksonville Service Center.
For more information on Adult Recognitions please view the Adult recognitions section of Volunteer Essentials. To learn more about nominating someone for these awards, attend one of the "Awards that say Thank You" enrichment classes offered in the Adult Learning Opportunities listing.
These recognitions will be awarded at our Annual Meeting and Friendship Celebration in February 2014.

OTEX (Outdoor Training Extravaganza) is an annual event held at Camp Kateri in Orange Springs.
This event is open to all Girl Scout Seniors, Ambassadors, and
adults. Parents are welcome to attend as well!
Participants can take Archery Instructor Courses, Canoe/ Kayak/ Sailing Instructor Courses, Chef Training, and all kinds of outdoor courses.

We are excited to share a new "Little House" location:
The Broward House The National Park Service is generously allowing Girl Scouts to use this historic site for meetings and overnight campouts. Eventually we hope to use The Broward House for some aquatics programs as well. This historic home dates back to the late 1800s and is a charming two story, wood frame structure. It has eight rooms, with three bathrooms and a kitchen. For reservations and more information, contact Customer Service at the Jacksonville Service Center. |

You may be well on your way to achieving Five Star status and don't even realize it. The Five Star Troop award ensures a well rounded Girl Scout program and recognizes the planning and organizing that goes into high-quality troop program. Upon successful completion of the requirements, each member of the troop will be eligible for the Five Star Troop patch, available from The Girl Scout Store while supplies last.
