US LTA 4+ Wins Silver

The US LTA Mixed 4+ won Silver at the Rio Paralympic Games on Sunday morning. Coached by CRI Director of Outreach, Ellen Minzner, the crew trained out of the Harry Parker Boathouse for the four months leading up to the Games. Congratulations to Zachary Burns, Danielle Hansen, Jenny Sichel, Jaclyn Smith, and Dorian Weber on a well fought race!

CRI Welcomes Ted Benford
Director of Operations
|
Community Rowing is pleased to announce that Ted Benford has been named as Director of Operations. For the past three months, Ted has been acting as the interim Director of Operations while CRI conducted a nationwide search. In his permanent role, Ted will work closely with senior leadership to improve support and management processes for CRI's operations and its 125 full and part-time staff. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, Ted will oversee improvement and rollout of key/strategic HR functions, processes and programs at CRI. Ted has a wide range of experience which touches a number of integral functions at CRI. In rowing, he has coached from club through Division I teams. He has led USRowing Under-23 camps, supported the USRowing lightweight team, served as a guest coach at high performance camps nationally and provided individual coaching to high performing athletes. Additionally, he has served on the board of directors at Community Rowing as well as Three Rivers Rowing in Pittsburgh. As the founder of Rowing Ventures, Inc., a company that uses rowing to teach communication and teamwork skills to senior level manager and executives, he integrated his coaching experience with leadership and team management consulting.
Ted is excited to combine his passion for rowing with experience in change management, organizational improvement and operational effectiveness, to expand the breadth and reach of Community Rowing's mission of rowing for all.

For the 5th year, CRI is hosting the CRI Fall Classic Regatta (formerly The Rumble on the River). This incredible event supports our Military and Para Rowing programs and is a great opportunity to volunteer with fellow members of our community.
Many hands are needed to make this Regatta a big success for us all, and in keeping with CRI's mission of Rowing for All and sharing our love for rowing, please sign up to help and invite your friends and family to join us as well.

This week marks the final practices of Session 3 of the Charles River Rowing League. On Saturday, 9/17, all participating teams will race for the prestigious CRRL Championship Cup.
In order to make Saturday's event go smoothly, we need your help! Information about the event and volunteer opportunities available are below:
CRRL Final Race - 9/17/2016
8:00am - 12:00pm
Volunteer Positions available:
Dockmaster (3) - Help with setup and breakdown of all equipment and help launch/catch boats on the dock.
Check In/Guest Services (3) - Welcome CRRL rowers/guests and help visitors find their way
Video and Timing (6) - Help capture the event on video and aid in other logistical aspects of the day.
Volunteer Rower (6) - Be available to jump in any empty seat and row with any team that needs you. 250m Races!

The Summer at Stoller was a great success - thank you to everyone who came over and rowed on the most amazing stretches of The Charles River. This week we have launched the FALL PROGRAMS and we are again able to accommodate people from aged 9 and upwards! Go to the sign-up page on the webpage for the full details but there will be classes for all including; - Sculling 1, 2, 3 and 4 - Parent and Child sessions - Refresher Junior Classes - Junior Learn to Row - Outreach programs including OWL, Fitness in the City - Middle School Curriculum and Field Trips sessions. This amazing new location, the brand new fleet of boats and CRI's 30 years' experience of providing safe, fun and healthy activities on the Charles River come together to offer CRIers and the local community the chance to take part in an exciting and healthy sport for the first time. CRI is delighted to partner with Lasell College to open this quiet waterway to the whole Community, offering 'Rowing for All' to a much wider audience!

Great News!! Tom McNichol and The Clean Up Boat have been nominated for Boston's 2016 Cox Conserves Hero award.
We were picked as one of the three finalists, and will receive a $5,000 donation. They are now having an on-line vote to determine the winner of the grand prize - an additional $5,000 donation. Voting ends September 23.
How can you help? We need all the votes we can get, as we have some stiff competition.
In addition to voting for us, we need everyone to send this request to your fellow club members, classmates, relatives, friends, fellow workers, etc. via email and social media.

Drive with CAUTION & Busy Time Parking Alternatives

The weather has gotten nice, and people are doing lots of rowing which is fantastic. All that rowing
is bringing lots of folks to the boathouse, and at certain times, the parking lot is over crowded.
Some important notes:
DRIVE SLOWLY & CAUTIOUSLY AT ALL TIMES
NO PARKING IN THE FIRE LANE - Cars may be towed
It is illegal to park in the fire lane. Cars that are parked in the fire lane are at risk of being towed by
the state.
PARKING ALTERNATIVES -
- North Beacon street: on street parking is available along North Beacon, with a short walk back over the bridge
- The old DCR public swimming pool parking lot at the North Beacon rotary.
