CRI Junior Men - RoRy Awards 2015
Breakthrough Performance of the Year
| Will Congram and our CRI Junior Men were recently recognized by RowingRelated with a RoRy Award for outstanding achievement at the junior level - they received their RoRy for Breakthrough Performance of the Year.
RoRy for Breakthrough Performance of the Year: Community Rowing, Inc. Junior Men
The men's squad from CRI this year had a breakthrough performance at nationals, earning a bronze medal in a very tight field in the men's varsity eight, placed fifth in the lightweight eight, and scored a national title in the men's pair. CRI also brought a second eight to compete in the varsity event, placing 16th overall. Congratulations to coach Will Congram for building the speed of the program, and leading the CRI men to an outstanding performance on the regional and national stages this season.

CRI Welcomes Industry Leaders to Staff
Welcome Matt Rostron & Lib Diamond
|
Community Rowing is pleased to announce two extraordinary new additions to their leadership team. Matt Rostron is moving to CRI from London, England, to lead CRI's efforts to improve operations and increase the organization's impact. Lib Diamond has accepted a leadership role in Development to sustain CRI's service to the community.
Matt Rostron comes to Boston after establishing a world-renown program serving young people from some the most disadvantaged areas of the United Kingdom. With 10 locations that serves more than eight thousand young people on an annual basis, London YouthRowing has developed a unique model to scale access to the sport. In his new role, Matt will use his experience to share CRI's mission of "Rowing for All" with new communities in the USA, starting with a pilot project on the Upper Charles in 2016.
Lib Diamond begins her tenure at CRI after working as the Assistant Director for Development and Communications for the Wellesley College Athletic Department, responsible for Annual Giving through Friends of Wellesley College Athletics. Lib has deep roots in the rowing community, having worked as the Director of Operations for the Head of the Charles Regatta for six years. With an MBA and exceptional experience with both donor advancement and special event organization, we are excited to grow the Annual Spring Party and other events that sustain CRI's mission of "Rowing for All" under Lib's leadership.

Noteworthy Performances

The 51st Head of the Charles was a fantastic regatta for CRI participants with a total of 46 entries, 6 medals and third place in the overall points trophy.
Congratulations to our CRI crews who turned in many noteworthy performances. Far too many to list them all, below are some highlights of the weekend:
- CRI Sponsored the USA LTA4+ for the HOCR, the only intact national team crew since worlds, in full line up - Coxswain Jenny Sichel, Stroke Zach Burns, Ricky Vandegrift, Jackie Smith and Dani Hansen. They broke the course record by over 2 minutes. CRI's club entry took second place with Andrew Johnson, Kyle Smith, Susan Murray and guest rower Rob Stidham. Trunk and arms double, Cal Borchers and Isaac French winners CRI Fall Classic, came in second place behind a US/Canadian team combo.
- CRI pushed for first ever inclusion races in the regatta and boated 4 doubles, each rower being matched with a former national team athlete. First place was Johanna Beyers and her partner Alix Chrumka.
- The Men's Youth 8+ came in third, the best finish ever for CRI
- Drew Tennant finished 4th in the Men's Master's Single
- Comp Men finished 7th in the Men's Club 4+
- Women's Youth improved over finishes from last year in both 8+s. Our 2v8 was the second overall in the Women's Youth 8+

Corporate Team Building
Volunteer Opportunities
|
The main ingredient that makes corporate rowing programs successful is our wonderful volunteers. Our volunteers allow our corporate clients an excellent experience as they are exposed to the sport of rowing. Please review our schedule below and volunteer today to be a part of CRI's corporateteam building experience this winter.
We have many more events in the works throughout the end of the rowing season, so stay tuned for more opportunities as well.
Special Note: We work closely with Kane and the coaches to make sure that regular programming is not impacted. These programs keep CRI's veterans, para-rowing, and Let's Row Kids on the water and ergs year round.

See you on the water,

Row2Syria
Raising Awareness
|
Dear CRI Members,
I am a former competitive varsity youth rower at CRI and I am currently studying in Germany.
On November 14 and 15, 2015, my rowing team at Jacobs University (where I study) will host a benefit event called ' Row2Syria' in order to raise awareness and funds to support Syrian refugees.
The Refugee Crisis that currently has a large impact on Europe is a topic that Jacobs students are confronted with on a daily basis. A Syrian who came to Germany himself two years ago to study at Jacobs and who is a fellow team mate contributed significantly to the inspiration behind this event.
More than 40 athletes from Jacobs University and rowing clubs around Bremen will take turns in rowing on ergometers for 24 hours in order to cover 3078 kilometers - the distance that separates Bremen from Damascus, Syria. This effort will be broadcasted live on our website www.row2syria.com. However, rowers from all around the world can row in solidarity of the event. Once they submit their kilometers erged on the row2syria website they will appear on global heat map, which will help demonstrate the international outreach this event. As a former CRI rower I was always inspired by the many ways CRI reached out the rowing community through programs like Para rowing and Row Boston, and was hoping that CRI would be kind enough to help us out in some way as well to bring awareness to our cause.
We would be more than pleased to have any kind of support, for instance in the form social media outreach and having rowers log meters in solidarity on the day of the event.
I would like to express our appreciation for your time and hope that you will consider supporting our cause.
Best regards,
Vincent Jerosch-Herold and the Row2Syria Team
