Corporate Team Building
Volunteer Opportunities
|
With the fall season upon us, we continue to see unprecedented success with CRI's corporate programs. This allows us some very unique volunteering opportunities for weekends, weekday mornings and midday events. The main ingredient that makes these programs successful is our wonderful volunteers. Our volunteers allow our corporate clients an excellent experience as they are exposed to the sport of rowing. Please review our schedule below and volunteer today to be a part of CRI's corporateteam building experience this fall.
We have many more events in the works throughout the end of the rowing season, so stay tuned for more opportunities as well.
Special Note: We work closely with Kane and the coaches to make sure that regular programming is not impacted. These programs keep CRI's veterans, para-rowing, and Let's Row Kids on the water and ergs year round.

See you on the water,

Charles River Rowing League concludes with the award of the Corporate Challenge Cup Our most competitive ever Charles River Rowing League season wrapped up Saturday at the conclusion of the CRI Fall Classic Regatta. The Corporate Challenge Cup was contested Saturday by 3 final crews; Buffs Pub, Brown Alumni and Choate. The final race was very, very close with the final decision being down to the last few strokes at the Fall Classic Regatta. The winning crew, Buff's Pub wasted no time in celebrating at the awards ceremony being the new crew to win the Corporate Challenge Cup. This year's Charles River Rowing League, hosted three sessions. Each session was six weeks long, allowing crews to participate in coached practices once a week. Most crews begin with very little to no rowing experience at all. Over the six weeks the crews, from many local business, learn to row, learn racing strategies and also how to race. At the end of each session we host a scrimmage against other crews and a BBQ celebration after. We look forward to our crews from this year's Charles River Rowing League to return next season, and we also look forward to many new teams to participate next year. USALaw Network hosts their team building row at CRI CRI was host to 50 team building participants from USALaw Network. Their crews filled out Six 8+s on Friday afternoon. The weather was perfect and our coaches and Volunteers treated them to a great day of team building on the water. The racing was fierce and competitive as the crews battled for bragging rights of the fastest boat. Once again our great volunteers made this an excellent experience for the crews; Nonna Gale, Tiena Lucas, Kayleigh Durm, Andrea Loew, Debbie Grinnell, Bill Brown and Phillip Fontana. Also a special thanks to our two super star September volunteers who are returning to college this week, Grace Smith and Ari Cohen, we will miss you both and good luck in school. Prologis spends the morning at CRI for a team building row On Tuesday the 22nd CRI hosted the Prologis local team for their team building row. We had a crew of 14 join us in two 8+s headed by Christine Orsie a former CRI rower. Both boats took to the sport quickly and raced for a couple lengths in the pond before retiring. Our Volunteers were great in filling in as coxswains, rowers and dock attendants. Thanks to Kristenmarie McCarthy, Keyleigh Durm, Irene Wong, Raj Malhotra, James Hadley, Katheryn Acciari and Angela Alton for helping us treat Prologis to an excellent experience on the water.

Hosting HOCR International Rowers
Looking for Hosts
|
The Head of the Charles 2015 is coming up fast, and your opportunity to help show
the rowing community's welcoming side is here with it. International rowers are coming to
compete, and looking for housing with local families.
The HOCR organization is a big supporter of CRI, and any help in providing housing for athletes who come from so far away to row here on the Charles would be appreciated. Can you possibly assist?
Some answers to frequently asked questions:
1. Accommodation is for athletes and coaches only.
2. Most people offer to host one or two rowers, although more is fine.
3. While rowers would generally be here a few days longer than just race days to adjust
to time zones and acquaint themselves with the course, it is not expected they would arrive
before Wednesday, October 14th nor stay past Monday, October 19th.
4. The general preference of the rowers is to be grouped close to people in their boat
(if any), and to be close to the river or public transport.
If you are interested in housing overseas crews, please email either Michelle Jaeger
(mjaegs@gmail.com) or Anne Buckingham (goannego@gmail.com) as soon as possible
as we are already getting requests for housing! We can also answer any questions you
might have.
Thank you,
Anne and Michelle

Fall Calendar
LABOR DAY ROWING TRAFFIC PATTERN CHANGE. Monday, September 7. The traffic pattern in the Powerhouse changes
(*) Powerhouse Stretch / Western Ave. and River Street Bridges: This area is used heavily by crews racing side-by-side, for high school and club races, and seat racing. Racing crews and scullers have right of way in this stretch. All crews and scullers, upstream and downstream, must use the right-hand arches of both bridges, going single file if not racing. The center arches are two-way to accommodate racing, with one boat in the right-hand arch, and the other to the right-hand side of the center arch. (*) Racing crews and scullers are only allowed to use the center arches if the right hand arches are concurrently used, and preferrably with a coach. From Labor Day through Thanksgiving, from 5 am until 1 pm, the center arches of Western and River street bridges are upstream only, to accommodate crews and scullers training for the Head of the Charles regatta. In the afternoon, the center arches resume being bi-directional. April 2010 Charles River Rowing Traffic Pattern Note that both ends of the race course cross just onto the wrong side of the river. Crews turning shall proceed well into the corners at the Weeks Footbridge (Cambridge) and the Railroad Tracks (Boston), being alert for and notifying approaching crews.
