32nd Annual Allston Brighton Parade
CRI has participated in the Allston Brighton Parade for over 15 years. Let's continue the CRI tradition and create the most amazing float in this year's parade.
In past parades, other participants have included marching bands from Boston College, Boston University and Salem High School, Harvard University Cheerleaders, WGBH, Oak Sq. YMCA, Brighton High School JROTC,elected officials and the Mayor of Boston to name a few.
Are you creative, a visionary, enthusiastic about spreading your CRI love for rowing, always wanted to be in a parade? Come help us design a float for CRI. Join the fun. We need you, lots of you!
Whether you have a creative idea, can bring tools or just want to be an athlete or coach on the float please join us. We will have a 2015 Parade Kick Off Meeting in the first week of September. Be a part of it!
Please email Theresa Fitzpatrick at theresafitz.cri@gmail.com by August 27 if you would like to be a part of the 2015 Allston Brighton Parade and our CRI Float. Be a part of it.
We need your team spirit to help spread our love for rowing!

Dear CRI Community,
I want to take a moment to write to you about the best part of CRI - sharing our sport with others. We are unbelievably lucky to have such an incredible boathouse filled with reliable, wonderful new Hudsons - but I want to say without exaggeration that in my experience, the people who enjoy rowing the most are the people who find ways to share it with others.
Volunteering at the Harry Parker Boathouse is a special ticket to the kind of satisfaction and happiness that is usually reserved for the very young or the very lucky. Getting together to help others get on the water - whether it is with a para rowing program or a team building event or by working at the boathouse on a special project - has a profound positive impact on other people and it brings new happiness into the world that simply wouldn't exist otherwise. Knowing that you have shared health and community and human connection with others transforms any day of the week into a Red Letter Day.
I hope that everyone who rows at CRI will find an opportunity to take the next step and share our sport with others - volunteer energy and enthusiasm are what make our special community thrive. You can see available opportunities to share your love for rowing at CRI here:
Thank you to everyone who shares their time and energy at the HPB. See you on the water!

Corporate Team Building
News & Updates
|
Last week was another very busy week for corporate events. In total we introduced over 120 new corporate rowers to the sport in 3 days. On Tuesday we concluded Session II of the Charles River Rowing League. Even though the weather would not let us on the water we still had a fun and competitive erg session in the community room followed by a cookout arranged by the IRL fellows. All CRRL teams were very excited with the conclusion of their six week session and most were looking forward to continuing with CRI through either general sweeps or another CRRL session. On Thursday, CRI hosted 60 employees from Nationwide Insurance. The group invited the RowBoston kids for lunch and treated the kids to four speakers who addressed the crowd under the tent on topics such as career advice, where to find inspiration, the common traits of successful people and how to keep motivated and disciplined in life and in school and work. The RowBoston kids then helped teach the Nationwide group how to row on the ergs and then helped get the group in 8+s for a team building row. The entire Nationwide team got seven 8+s on the water and raced in the pond for the honor of fastest boat. That boat then got copy of Boys In the Boat. The interaction with the Nationwide team and the RowBoston kids was really wonderful, and Nationwide made a sizeable donation to CRI for the experience. A big thank you to our volunteers; Jennifer Bindman, Adela Miller, Elizabeth St. Brice Teina Lucas, Alejandro Chavez, George Sangiolo, Bill Brown, and Helen Stefan. Getting seven 8+s on the water and back in the boathouse is no small task. A very special thank you to the RowBoston kids who really represented CRI and RowBoston and impressed the Nationwide group; Isabella Maximo, Nafisa Abdi, Francis Sosa-Baez, Royce Pease, Reid Pease, Bella Rizzo, Shannon Flynn, Melat Tadesse, Houda Bouchouari, Diego Rao and Lizzie St. Brice. On Friday, CRI hosted the Ernst & Young's Northeast Advisory group at CRI. They chose CRI for their quarterly fun Friday activity and a team building row. The group of 40 held their quarterly meeting in the classroom in the morning and then got five 8+s out in the water for the afternoon. The crews learned fast and were able to race twice in the pond to determine the fastest boat. Thanks to CRI Board Member Jamie Hintlian for helping us organize that event with his E&Y group. Thanks to volunteers; Phil Fontana, James Hadley, Nicholas Fitzpatrick, Clifford Scott, Chase Akerman, Ann Redmon, Bergen Nelson, Theresa Fitzpatrick, TK Gupta, Danielle Valle-Fitzgerald, and Adela Miller. Here's a quote from one of the participants. I want to thank you for putting on such a nice event for my colleagues and I Friday. Afterwards, nobody had anything but positive things to say about the experience, and that's a direct reflection of the effort you and your fellow coaches put forth. Taking a group like ours with varying athletic backgrounds (if any..), molding us to work together and actually have the boat move in a straight line is no small task, especially getting our boat to win first place!

CRAB ALERTS
Two Items - Please Take Note
|
1. Sandbar at Anderson/Cambridge Arch Upstream Edge
A sand bar has appeared in the center, upstream edge of the Anderson/Cambridge arch.
Singles were bottoming out on this, and launches were getting stuck... looks like construction fill/debris.
1) Stick tight to the abutment coming through the Anderson/Cambridge arch.
2) Watch out for launches in the center arch
CRAB is following up with the State today.
2. Riverside Dock Placement Change
Heads up boaters especially you backwards facing rowers.... construction is nearly complete on the Riverside docks.
They are now positioned in a new configuration. - and this may change your usual traffic pattern.
As you may know, a few years ago, ice build up behind the dock pushed the docks out, taking the porch with it.
Emergency repairs were made but a permanent solution, which included pilings, was needed. The new configuration pushes the docks out further into the river. For those of you who like to cut that corner and buzz the
downstream end of the RBC dock, take a good look when rounding the turn in the upstream direction.
Riverside boats waiting to dock should hover downstream in the shadow of the dock closer to shore.
Riverside boats that need to adjust after launching should wait in the shadow of the dock on the upstream side. Riverside asks that you alert them to any issues that you see arising from the new configuration.
Also, power boaters please take note that the Red Bull event next Saturday will have State Police/Ranger
detail and will ask powerboaters to hold for races. More details to come.
