CRAB ALERT
Anderson Bridge Traffic Pattern Change

Please see the note below from CRAB regarding Anderson Bridge. Please keep in mind that when they tell us that the Arch access will change on Wednesday, that it does not mean that it will be changed for rowers hours on Wednesday. In other words, the change will occur on Wednesday while construction guys are working. Also keep in mind that they go to work pretty early - like during rower hours. So, if you are rowing Wednesday morning, keep your eyes open. The change may occur while you are on the water, or may be occurring (as in, barges and equipment moving all around) while you are on the water.

Row the other way if you can.

Check out the CRAB website at www.charlesriverallianceofboaters.org

Message from CRAB:

The State has informed us that on Wednesday, July 15, the Boston Arch of the Anderson Bridge will re-open, and the Cambride Arch will close, triggering the following change:
  • The Boston Arch will be used by rowers and small boats as downstream only.
  • The Center Arch will be used by rowers and small boats as upstream only.  Powerboaters will continue to use this arch bi-directionally.
Everyone should use caution around Anderson bridge during construction.  Coaches are reminded to not wake the barges.  And if you see a rower heading for the wrong arch, make sure you tell them about the change.

Big Week for Corporate Team Building
Many Thanks to All!

Another huge week for corporate team building events thanks to the hard work by volunteers, coaches and coxswains to help CRI deliver an incredible experience for three corporate groups and four boats of Charles River Rowing Associates.

Thursday evening we had Nixon Peabody the Law firm in for a team building row coached by Tom Tiffany and Patrick Larcom.  The weather was spectacular and their 11 associates loved their time on the water in 8+s.  They had a very tight race at the end for the fastest boat award and then moved on to a celebratory dinner nearby.  Thank you to Own Tellalian, Liz Christmas, Bill Brown, Alex McAuliffe, and Liz Johnson for volunteering and making their CRI experience excellent.

Friday afternoon we had a Boston College graduate teaching program in Coached by Anna Harris, and Brendan Mulvey this group of 15 wasted no time getting their boats out and rowing.  All of these participants are current teachers in Boston Catholic Schools and had a great time on the water knowing they were helping to fund Row Boston.  They really picked up the technique fast and were rowing all 8+ in no time at all.  The finished off with a couple of race pieces to determine the fastest boats.  Thank you to the 4 volunteers we found in the boathouse to join in at the last minute, we didn't gather your names, however, your involvement was much appreciated and the BC group loved having you.

Sunday was on one of the most fun and busiest days the boathouse has seen, we had a 56 person team building row with Intralinks, starting at 2:00pm. At the same time the Riverside BBQ Series was kicking off under the West tent, while participants from the Cromwell cup were coming and going.  Despite the crowds seven coaches got seven 8+s of rowers on the water and coached through heats, finals and semifinals officiated by coach Vee Platzer as they raced for fastest boat in front of the docks.  After the teambuilding row the group had a clambake and discussed their rowing boat by boat in front of their colleges highlighting what made them successful and what they could improve on.  They all had a great time, thanks to the incredible work from volunteers including Boston Rows kids recruited by Sandra Cirdillo: Diego, Reed, Royce, Jack, Liz, Shannon, Max, Francis. Also volunteering were members of CRIs World Championships bound Lightweight 8+.  We also had CRI members; Elizabeth St. Brice, Stephanie Gavell, Alexa Marcasciano, Shannon Flynn, Theresa Fitzpatrick and her son, Rony Sebok, Andrea Loew, and Bergen - Finley and Jody Nelson.  At the end of the event all volunteers and coaches were treated to a complementary ticket to the Riverside BBQ Series to finish the day.

In addition, CRI had 4 boats of Charles River Rowing League, complete their second week of session II getting 32 rowers on the water in barges for the week.  This week those four teams: Choate, Boston Ski & Sport Club, Harvard Business Publishing and Brown Alumni spend their first time in 8+s on the water.  Wish them luck in training for the Corporate Challenge Cup in September.

Host a Para Rower!
US National Team LTA 4+

CRI will be selecting the US National Team LTA 4+ that will compete at the World Championships this summer. Once the 4+ is selected, we will need host family homes for the athletes from July 16th - August 21st.

Host families have been very important to 'their' athlete.  During rowers' time at CRI, they are away from home and undertaking a demanding training program to prepare for  intense competition. The host family makes all the difference.Host families will receive a small stipend to cover expenses.

If you are interested in hosting one of these outstanding athletes, please contact Ellen Minzner, Head Coach for the USA LTA 4+ at [email protected]

Thank you for all of your support!
