Corporate Challenge Cup
Win it for Your Company

Want to win the Corporate Challenge Cup for your company?  You can do so through the Charles River Rowing League which got off to a great start this week.  For the first week, the coaches were busy getting their boats organized and getting the new rowers comfortable with their rowing stroke on the ergs.  Each CRRL group spent the first session on the ergs and touring the boathouse and getting their first water strokes in with the Dockbox.  Week two will be on the water in the rowing catamarans, then Week three and beyond  will be launching in 8+s.  If you see these CRRL participants out there, please give them your encouragement, they are all very excited to learn to row.

This year, Charles River Rowing League will run in 3 sessions throughout the year.

  • Session 2 starts the week of June 30th
  • Session 3 starts the week of August 11th

If you know any individuals or company's interested in putting together a corporate team, have them reach out to Jeff Nelson at:  jeff.nelson@commmunityrowing.org

Once again, this year, all CRRL participants will be eligible to race for the corporate challenge cup at the CRI Fall Classic Regatta on September 19th.

Volunteers Needed 6/13 & 6/14
Help Us with Our Coach OnBoarding Seminar

We are looking for volunteers to help out this weekend with our Coach OnBoarding seminar.

The OnBoarding session will run from 8-4 each day, Saturday and Sunday. We will need volunteers throughout each day.

We'll need volunteers to:
  • Assist with set-up of session materials/food/snacks
  • Prep launches for coach boat cruise (put gas, life jackets, snacks in launches - some knowledge of launches helpful)
  • Set up 'boat test' - incorrectly strapping boats to be 'fixed' during boat test  (some small boat experience helpful)

Please consider helping out this weekend, your time and energy will be very much appreciated.

To help out please email Nonna at: nonna@communityrowing.org

Row the Prouty
Saturday, July 11, 2015

Join others from CRI and "Row the Prouty". This is an annual fundraising event in Hanover, NH to benefit the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Norris Cotton Cancer Center.

Row 5, 10, 15 or 20 miles up and back on the Connecticut River, launching from the Dartmouth Boathouse. This is NOT a race so it is an ideal opportunity for all rowers, recreational and competitive, to partake in a team event on another river.

If you don't have your own boat, you can sign up for a club boat. The event is open to all boat classes: 1x, 2x, 4x, 8+.

There is no entry fee but there is a fundraising minimum of $150 per entrant.

Let me know if you're interested or have any questions.  I will again be acting as the informal "team captain" for CRI-ers interested in going.  My e-mail is: rsebok@gmail.com

Thanks!

Rony Sebok

Weight Room Protocol
Please: Return Weight Room Equipment to Proper Racks After Use

We have been very lucky to enjoy our new and improved weight room, which a committee of our fellow members and coaches put a lot of work into. New equipment was brought in, the room was reconfigured and special racks were built for storage.

Please help us maintain our gym properly. Always return foam rollers to their storage rack after each use. The weight room equipment - though sometimes used in other locations around the boathouse during a practice - should be returned to the weight room and re-racked/stored after each use. Weights, dumb bells, kettle bells and foam rollers all have racks for storage.

Weights, boxes, foam rollers and mats do not belong in the community room, classroom, meeting room, locker rooms or the pavilion. Similarly, if an erg or stationary bike or Coffey Simulator is used in the weight room, the equipment should be returned to the community room where it belongs when it is no longer in use.
CRI New Boat Fee

Community Rowing, Inc., is purchasing a new fleet of boats this year to improve the rowing experience for everyone who accesses the river from the Harry Parker Boathouse. The new boats will help our community create the best possible rowing experience for rowers at every level - for the first time in the history of public rowing, all rowers will have access to top quality, reliable equipment.

To pay for this new equipment, we are relying on generous supporters to help fund the initial downpayment. In addition, the CRI Board has instituted a 'New Boat Fee' of $75 to begin in 2015. The 'NBF' will not be charged at the time of a participants first registration for our on-water season. The fee will be charged either 1) in June for those rowers who are registered for a Full Season program on the water or 2) when a rower registers for a SECOND COACHED on-water program.

The intention is to keep the cost of rowing accessible while covering the cost of equipment on an annual basis. As always, we hope that everyone can enjoy the CRI community, and if the cost of rowing is a burden for you or your family, we encourage you to apply for financial aid.
The Boathouse & Your Belongings
Lots of Folks About ... Watch Your Stuff!!

As summer approaches, so does the use of outdoor areas around and near the boathouse. Please remember that during the nice weather especially we have many more folks around in addition to our own members - boaters, joggers, bikers, etc. We are on public land, provide restrooms available to the public and many folks can come and go through the lobby, boat bay and parking lot.

Occasionally, there will be folks who come here to take advantage and help themselves to peoples belongings.

One of the most powerful deterrents we have is friendliness!  That is, say hi to everyone who comes in, ask everyone you see "how was your row" or "who were you rowing with today" or some other form of engagement so people know they are not going un-noticed when here at the boathouse.

A couple of pointers:

1. Avoid bringing valuables to the boathouse.
2. Secure your belongings is our day lockers. Locks are on sale at the front desk.
3. If you believe something was stolen, please let us know. Fill out an incident report.

Host a National Team Hopeful...
Rooms Needed for Rowers

Dear CRI Families,

Team USA needs you! As you may have heard, CRI will be hosting the Lightweight 8 Selection Camp this summer. In order to field the best possible boat we have reached out to athletes from across the country, many of whom will be in need of housing for selection camp (May 27th-June 19th) and potentially through World Championship training (July 5th-August 15th).

Athletes would provide their own food and transportation, they are simply looking for a place to sleep at night and rest between practices. If you have or know of any available space, please reach out to Bryan Pape at bpape86@gmail.com

Whether you have room for one or for many, are within biking or driving distance, or have any times during the summer when your space will be unavailable, please let us know.

Thank you for your support. Go CRI, and go Team USA!
