Donors Honor Coach John Sisk
Boat Named for Coach Sisk

CRI Coach John Sisk was given the news today that a group of anonymous donors had stepped forward to donate a boat in his honor as part of CRI's ongoing Capital Campaign for the new HUDSON fleet! CONGRATULATIONS JOHN!  Below is a photo of John getting the news in Executive Director Bruce Smith's office this morning.

John will be on hand to "bless" the new 4x with a champagne pour on May 29th for the Boat Naming Ceremony at 6:15pm. This event is open to the entire CRI Community and we hope that you will join us as we name several new shells and celebrate with cake and a juice toast.

Boat naming opportunities are still available and are a great way to honor someone or an occasion that is important in your life:  a new graduate, a beloved coach, a family member or an anniversary or birthday.  Please contact [email protected] or [email protected] for details.

Corporate Team Building
A Successful Week of Events

What a great week we for corporate team building events.  We hosted three successful events this past week with the help of great volunteers, staff and coaches.

Tuesday CRI hosted, Ignite the Extraordinary, with guest author and speaker Whit Mitchell.  We had 25 attendees who enjoyed learning to row on the water lead by our great coaching staff of Vee, Bode and Patrick Larcom. Participants then had lunch and learned from the great presentation, Ignite the Extraordinary, delivered by Whit Mitchell.  Each participant left CRI with: a great experience, a signed book, Working in Sync, from Whit and an excellent time on the water learning to row.  Thanks again to the volunteers who helped support an excelent experience for our attendees. One of the attendees Lee Elias was so impressed with the event he commented, "The organizational procession from the ergs to the barges and back to the community room for lunch and the presentation was timed flawlessly".

Wednesday evening we hosted the law firm Weil Gosthal & Manges, LLP. The two 8+s of attorneys showed up in Viking regalia to entertain their new associates. The group was coached by Arial Handler and Luke Wilhelm who taught the Weil Vikings to row in unison, race each other, after they enjoyed pizza and refreshments on the banks of the river as the sun set.  Muguet Cox from Weil said "Our attorneys had a blast and haven't stopped talking about the event. We can't thank you enough for all of your help and cooperation. It was definitely a memorable and fun evening and we will definitely plan to row with you again in the future."  Once again the volunteers were essential in making this event happen with their behind the scenes work.

Friday was the grand finale of a big week. We hosted London Business School and Danone Company. We had 28 participants from 10 different nations. They were interested in speaking with our coaches about leadership, teamwork and mindfulness and how those concepts bridge from rowing to business. Then our coaching staff of Vee, Nigel and Will treated them to a great learn to row experience on the river. When they were done the group had nothing but great things to say about their experience. As one of the group's leaders, Jules Goddard, Fellow of the Center for Management at London Business School explained, "This was a very memorable experience, In 10 years' time I will not forget this experience."

Thanks again to all the volunteers and staff that made these events a success. Stay tuned for next week's E-news for opportunities to volunteer for big, future summer events.

CRAB Alert

ALERT! Anderson Bridge Traffic Pattern Change
Wednesday, May 13

Please take a moment to read the following alert from CRAB about an upcoming traffic pattern change at Anderson Bridge.

It is unclear what time this change will happen on Wednesday May 13th, so all boaters are urged to use extreme caution at all times tomorrow.  Just because you can see what the arch situation is does not mean that the boat coming towards you can.  Use your heads, people.

Until further notice, while the Boston Arch is closed, the center arch of Anderson Bridge becomes downstream ONLY.  The Cambridge arch continues to be used as Upstream Only.  Please keep in mind that Powerboaters will continue to use the center arch in both directions.

It is VERY easy to end up in the wrong place when approaching and exiting these arches, so all boaters are urged to use caution and not go through the bridge at pressure.

Please proactively share this information with others on your docks and if you see someone using the center arch as upstream, alert them to the change.

Check out CRAB here.

Unreported Damage to a New Hudson
Protocol & Responsibility for All Members/Rowers
Recently, one of our new HUDSONs was found to be damaged. No documentation or reporting of the damage was submitted in the repair log or to Dave Snowdon.

Any damage to boats or equipment is always to be recorded in the repair log immediately when damage has occurred or been discovered. Checking the condition of boats prior to and following a row is expected every time a boat is used - whether having been rowed, loaded or unloaded, rigged or de-rigged. As a club, it is our responsibility as a group of rowers to care for our equipment and to follow expected procedures.

Any future instance of unrecorded/undocumented damage to a boat will result in a club-wide day-off-the-water with all programs focusing on boat handling and care.

Please share in taking excellent care of our incredible new fleet of boats!
Thank you.
