Hingham IcebERG Classic
Great Showing by CRI!!

CRI made an excellent showing at the Hingham IcebERG Classic, which took place this past Sunday, Feb 8th. The classic is an hour long relay, with 4 rowers per team. The goal? To row as many meters as you can in an hour.

CRI had 3 women's teams entered, and CRI won BOTH the Masters and Senior Masters categories.

Thank you Rony Sebok for sharing this exciting news with all of us!

Nice job CRI!!

Theresa Welsh
824,224 Meters and Her Amazing Story

THERESA WELSH came back from a major stroke to lead CRI in the Virtual Team Challenge with 824,224 meters!

CRI VTC Coordinator and new Board Member Ruth Morss recently reached out to thank Theresa Welsh for her simply inspirational and astounding accomplishment of being the overall meter leader for CRI. We wanted to share Theresa's incredible response:

"I also want to say that CRI has been an inspiration for me as well. It's a long story, but I used to row a lot and compete with a team in Virginia, and then got completely sidelined (to put it mildly.ha) following a major stroke at 39.  It was a long road and took years, and I honestly never thought that I'd row again. Then 4 years ago, I found myself walking into CRI, and its the best decision that I ever made. So, I thank you as well."

On a side note, my husband bought me an erg for Christmas last year, and I sometimes think that he regrets his decision, as I REALLY enjoying exercising...and especially rowing :)

Here is a photo of Theresa (in the red shirt) rowing the stroke seat at a CRI practice.

CRI to Host USABA LTA Development Camp
May 29 - June 4, 2015

In partnership with USRowing and Community Rowing, Inc., the United States Association of Blind Athletes (USABA), is pleased to host an adaptive rowing camp for rowers with physical disabilities and identify potential candidates for participation in the Paralympic Games. The camp will be held in Boston, MA at Community Rowing.

The camp is open to male and female participants but is limited to those eligible for the LTA (Legs, Trunks & Arms) Paralympic boat class. Generally speaking, rowers who can use a sliding seat, such as someone with a visual impairment or with single-leg or single-arm involvement, are in the LTA class.

Athletes with disabilities who are currently rowing or have previous rowing experience or who have a high level of fitness and a competitive athletic background are strongly encouraged to apply.Veterans and Active Duty Service Members with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.

This program was funded in part by a grant by the United States Department of Veteran Affairs. Program fees for non-military athletes will be no more than $375 and include all components of the camp (accommodations, ground transportation, meals, equipment, training, etc.).  We endeavor to subsidize these fees for the benefit of qualified candidates. Travel will be the responsibility of the participant.

Experience Makers Wanted
Volunteer for The 'What Works' Summit Coaching Conference 2015

Share your enthusiasm for CRI and the sport of rowing on Friday & Saturday, February 27th & 28th! I am helping Matt Lehrer to look for volunteers to make the 'What Works' Summit 2015 a one of a kind experience. It is a great opportunity to draw participants into the engaging and welcoming community that is CRI.

Volunteer Shift Sign Up

Volunteers are required to complete an evening training session prior to the start of the 'What Works' Summit. This meeting is important as we will review the tasks that each volunteer position is required to complete. It is also a great time to meet the people with whom you will be working!

The volunteer training meeting is on Monday, February 23rd at 6:45 PM in the G-Row Classroom.

Best,

Matt Lehrer & Sharanya Subramanian
