WINNERS LEARN FASTER
featuring Joy of Sculling Conference Keynote speaker, Dr. Frank Dick OBE
|
As coaches develop and continue to learn throughout their career, they are taught the science of coaching and learn the art through experience. The art comes down to making the right decisions under pressure.
Part of the decision making process is synthesizing the available performance science, medicine and technology data. Most of it is about judgment. All of it is about being prepared to learn faster than the opposition. Being prepared means having an attitude of persistently seeking knowledge as a coach. It also means having a system in place to do so through meticulous review and debrief.
In this session, Frank will speak from his experience of working with top coaches in all sports over the past 35 years and how coaches can take these lessons learned and apply it to fit their specific context and team/coaching dynamics.

New Board Members
Ruth Morss & Laura Davis
|
Ruth Morss Ruth Morss learned to row at CRI in 2001 and has been a member of the recreational general sweeps program ever since. Rowing in the Head of the Charles in 2006 as part of a Masters Eight was one of the athletic highlights of her life.
Ruth holds degrees from Wellesley College (BA), Syracuse University (MA), University of Pittsburgh (MA) and the F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business at Babson College (MBA).
Ruth began her career in Italy as an expert art historian and leader for tour groups traveling in mainland Italy and Sicily. She then spent close to a decade working for a luxury tour operator doing international recruiting, service quality management, and customer communications.
When not rowing, Ruth is a long-time volunteer coach for the Coaching for Leadership and Teamwork Program at Babson College. She is currently pursuing opportunities in the admissions and alumni relations side of higher education, and she looks forward to deepening the engagement of the adult recreational rower with CRI.
Laura Davis
Laura Davis, previously a swimmer, has taken to rowing in both the sweeps and sculling programs, and is currently a coached logbook sculler. She started to compete this past fall in a single, and more recently as part of a quad. Laura's eldest daughter also rowed for a season last year on the Novice team, during which time she served as Novice Girls parent coordinator.
Laura and her family also hosted one of LTA 4+ Para athletes during National Team training and try-outs this past summer.
A scientist by training, she helped oversee programming for a new science building at MIT and taught basic science to the Knight Science Journalism Fellows. She is active in the Newton public schools and PTO. She looks forward to working on the CRI fundraising efforts.
"Rowing at CRI has been a life-changing experience for me, as I know it has for countless others, so it would be a pleasure to communicate my enthusiasm to the broader community." - Laura Davis
