Row the Prouty
Go CRI Scullers!
|
 | Carol Krauss, Rony Sebok, Lynn Salmonsen, Bartlett Leber, Marion Dancy |
Congratulations to the CRI Prouty team who together raised over $4450 for the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Norris Cotton Cancer Center -- and rowed over 60 miles, combined, in their singles on the beautiful Connecticut River launching from the Dartmouth Boat Club. Quote of the day: CRI sculler to US National Team 8+: "Go USA" US National Team response: "Go CRI" how cool is that?! Next year's "Row the Prouty" will be on July 11. Singles, doubles, quads and 8's are welcome. Put it on your calendar for next year!

CRI Welcomes
Wayne Berger
|
Wayne Berger couples a strong background in educational leadership with his extensive coaching experience at the junior, collegiate and international levels. With three IRA National Championships, five Eastern Sprints Championships and two Ladies Plate titles from the Henley Royal Regatta during his time at Harvard University as well as a 2012 Youth National Championship with Deerfield Academy, Berger's crews have regularly had their season culminate on the podium. In addition, under his leadership for five summers, the Boston Rowing Club program he established won seven championships at the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta as well as four titles at the US Club National Championships. Most recently a Head Coach at the Sydney Rowing Club in Australia, Wayne coached seven crews to national titles and led SRC to a fourth place finish overall. Alongside his coaching success, Berger has devoted himself to the development of young men and women in his role as a teacher, admissions counselor and college advisor at the Hotchkiss School, the Loomis-Chaffee School, the Groton School and Deerfield Academy. As an admissions counselor and college advisor for over 18 years, his experience working with young people to find the best educational opportunity dovetails nicely with his coaching experience as he is able to keep a common thread of maximizing their potential. Berger has also coupled these experiences as a college advisor and Rowing Camp Director for the Sparks Consulting Group. Wayne will be helping in several areas at CRI. He will be coaching the competitive men as well as working with the IRL and outreach.
Welcome Wayne!

Seeking CRI Garden Coordinator
Share Your Landscaping Vision for the Boathouse
|
Do you have a vision for the landscaping around our boathouse? Would you like to be the visionary who guides fellow community members and volunteers to nurture the grounds surrounding the Harry Parker Boathouse and keep them as beautiful as they can be?
We would like to rescue our green areas from the ravages of geese, improving the condition of the bio-swales, plant wildflowers and more. Let our beautiful grounds by the Charles be your canvas.
We anticipate that this would be a weekly commitment through the growing season, and would consist primarily of recruiting and coordinating volunteers to perform regular and seasonal tasks, coordinating closely with Dave Snowdon and other CRI staff.

CRWA: Water Quality Flags
What Do the Colors Mean?
|
Community Rowing is one of the participating boathouse along the river that fly water quality flags during the summer as part of the Charles River Watershed Association (CRWA) Water Quality Notification Program.
CRWA's Water Quality Notification Program presents the daily flag colors of the river's health, which signify whether or not the river is safe for boating at ten boating locations from Watertown to Boston. Flag colors are based on bacteria levels and blue-green algae counts.
CRWA estimates bacteria levels using a model that takes into account a variety of environmental factors including antecedent rainfall and river flow. CRWA collects river samples for bacteria weekly to verify the model forecast. Blue-green algae monitoring is conducted at least every two weeks. Read more about the development of CRWA's bacteria prediction model.
What do the flag colors mean?
Blue Flags:
Indicate suitable boating conditions
Yellow Flags:
Indicate inconclusive data to preclude a possible health risks
Red Flags:
Indicate potential health risks
Look for the flag flying at CRI at the top of Dock 3.
