Susan Anderson Rows in UK
Merton College

Welcome home to Susan Anderson after a short sabbatical in the UK where she took the initiative and scored herself some rowing miles through the generosity and kindness of Merton College.  Here she is, launching a single from this historic club.  Way to go Susan!
Middle School Update
From Tiffany Macon
The Let's Row Boston middle school program is a 6 week indoor rowing program that is held at school locations. Within the 6 weeks students learn how to row, use and operate the ergs properly, learn more about the sport of rowing, and hear about rowing opportunities available to them. Once a school has completed the indoor component, the school will be invited to the Harry Parker Boathouse to row on the Charles River.

The first block of schools were Timilty (Roxbury) and Mildred Ave (Mattapan) and they rowed 601,846 meters. The second block of middle schools are up and running. The schools are Jackson Mann (Brighton), Donald McKaY (East Boston), St. Columbkille (Brighton), and Horace Mann (Brighton).

 Stay Committed, Fit & Rowing-Ready: A Cross-Training Primer

Neal Thompson's Presentation Descriptive

Staying committed to fitness training during the cold winter months is often terribly difficult.  We are often without the structure of in-season practice sessions and the support of our teammates and coaches.

Moreover, during the haphazardness and distractions of the holidays even the best athletes can often be derailed
from their steadfast intentions.

For 20+ years Neal Thompson, Founder of Crossfit Boston, has been designing workouts and strategies that enable athletes to improve fitness regardless of the environment they face. Neal writes, "Every day we are challenged by an environment that is increasingly stressful.  [I am] positive about the possibilities of each [athlete's]
abilities.  New goals are reached, old fears and doubts are conquered

In his presentation, Neal will address the benefits of cross training--how to keep the mind fresh and vibrant (i.e. prevent staleness) with diversity, how to recognize & correct musculoskeletal imbalance (and possibly reduce injuries), how to create "team support" when training alone, and more.  Neal will coach a brief workout session in front of the audience as an example of how to employ these exercises and strategies.

Join us to see and hear this no-nonsense expert of cross training.  For those who attended this past November's discussion: Neal's presentation is the practical "how-to" portion that compliments Adam Naylor's social-psychological strategies presentation.  Come gain more knowledge on how to improve your athletes' indoor season, and give them strategies to succeed!

We're making plans for the Concept2 January Virtual Team Challenge, which begins January 1, 2014. All CRI ergers can participate and we'll row as a team to log 40 million meters during the month, row around the world, and once again log the most meters of any rowing club. More details will be coming soon including special events and how to sign up for the team.  But if you already have an online logbook at the Concept2 web site, you can join now. Just log into your on-line logbook and go to the Team page. On that page you can opt into the January Virtual Challenge. You'll be all set for the January Challenge and any meters you log in December will go for the individual Holiday Challenge.
