Coaching Education Symposium Lecture Series
At CRI Tuesday, November 19, 6:30-8:00pm

A Presentation by Sports Psychologist Dr. Adam Naylor:

Strategies coaches can employ to help athletes stay focused, stay motivated

and get the most out of winter training.

The indoor training season brings with it many challenges.Staying committed to training is often much more difficult without the support of teammates, coaches, and rowing colleagues. Moreover, a big challenge is how to maintain an athlete's adherence to fitness training while being confronted by pressures such as: a varying schedule, less daylight, cold temperatures, holiday travel & family obligations, out-of-routine & on-the-road surroundings.

Evidence suggests that the mechanisms of detraining (e.g., decreased VO2max) occur as promptly as 2 weeks after exercise cessation. It is therefore essential for competitive athletes to miss no more than 7-14 days total of training (
Neufer, PD, Sports Med., 1989).

What are the situational, psychological, social, and behavioral components that can either derail athletes from training, or inspire them to train smarter/harder? What strategies can we employ to help athletes stay focused, stay motivated, and get the most out of the indoor training season?

Join us to hear Adam Naylor share more than 15 years of expertise as a practitioner sports psychology. Gain knowledge on how to improve your athletes' indoor season results, and give them strategies to succeed!

Entrance Fee: $5 (CRI Staff attend for free)
Refreshments will be served.

New Face Around the Boathouse
CRI Welcomes Deszarae Busi

Deszarae Busi is a physical therapist from Cerebral Palsy of Massachusetts who is assisting our pararowers and mil/vets to become better rowers. Deszarae works with these athletes in small groups and individually by advising on stretching routines, core training, and equipment modifications. This addition to erg and on-the-water training is sure to put CRI pararowing and military athletes on the proud path to becoming top competitors. Feel free to say "hello" when you see her on the erg floor. Here she is with Priscilla working on some core strengthening activities.

Boston Society of Architects
The Places in Between
Common Boston, a neighborhood-based planning/design/architecture festival put on by the Boston Society of Architects (BSA) will focus this year on the neighborhoods of Allston and Brighton and are hoping some members of CRI will be involved in some capacity with this year's festival!

Common Boston, a volunteer program of the BSA, is a free festival of architecture, design and neighborhoods. The festival programming ranges from panel discussions to competitions, tours, parties and more. The goal is to create a dialogue between local communities and the design industry and to introduce folks to the neighborhoods of Boston. Events have introduced thousands of people to the areas BSA focuses on, and they have had a lot of fun getting to know the people, places and businesses that sustain the local communities. Events will kick-off  with a forum held in early February, running through early fall. The focus will be on Allston/Brighton and Kendall Square and, with a theme of "The Places In Between."

BSA and Boston Common would love to have someone or multiple folks from CRI participate in the roundtable. The roundtable is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, December 3, from 6:00 to 8:00pm.Refreshments and pizza will be provided for all who attend.

Do You Teach Voice or Acting?
Looking for Someone w/ Experience in Voice Projection
We're looking for a CRI member that has a background in teaching voice projection. Great topic for coaches right? We thought it'd be a great way for someone to share some expertise in having a session with the IRL Fellows to help them all learn to project better. Ideal would be someone with a background coaching acting or possibly singing.

Anderson Bridge Arch closures change again Cambridge closed

Hi Boaters

As of now the barge at Anderson and its associated boom have been moved to the Cambridge Arch. It is supposed to stay this way for at least a week.

Rowers use the Head of the Charles course. Center arch upstream and Boston arch downstream. Powerboats usually use the center arch. Approach the area with caution.

Be safe, enjoy the autumn foliage,

Aleks
