Coaching Education Symposium Lecture Series
At CRI Tuesday, November 19, 6:30-8:00pm

A Presentation by Adam Naylor, Ed.D.,CC-AASPDr:

The indoor training season brings with it many challenges.  Staying committed to training is often much more difficult without the support of teammates, coaches, and rowing colleagues. Moreover, a big challenge is how to maintain an athlete's adherence to fitness training while being confronted by pressures such as: a varying schedule, less daylight, cold temperatures, holiday travel & family obligations, out-of-routine & on-the-road surroundings.

Evidence suggests that the mechanisms of detraining (e.g., decreased VO2max) occur as promptly as 2 weeks after exercise cessation.  It is therefore essential for competitive athletes to miss no more than 7-14 days total of training (Neufer, PD, Sports Med., 1989).

What are the situational, psychological, social, and behavioral components that can either derail athletes from training, or inspire them to train smarter/harder?  What strategies can we employ to help athletes stay focused, stay motivated, and get the most out of the indoor training season?  Join us to hear Adam Naylor share more than 15 years of expertise as a practitioner sports psychology.  Gain knowledge on how to improve your athletes' indoor season results, and give them strategies to succeed!

Entrance Fee: $5 (CRI Staff attend for free)
Refreshments will be served.

Upcoming Symposium Dates:

No rowing for youth Learn to Row in the rain...
We do understand, but that is part of being an outdoor sport, sometimes we get wet. Dress in water resistant layers... we appreciate being waterproof!

Men/boys should wear shirts, if they are not on the water... put a shirt on!
We agree and are trying to work on this.

You guys need a bench outside
Bench outside - great idea.

You guys should have a food vending machine...
Dave is working on switching out our current beverage vending machine, which is slightly broken.  Lane Lariat, a Let's Row Boston Coach, is working with him to get a food vending machine.

Sell water bottles for $2 dollars...
While we don't sell water bottles, hoping to encourage the environmentally friendly habit of using re-usable bottles, we do have water fountains AND we have a great volunteer who has started washing the MANY water bottles left here, and puts them out for people to re-use.

Please replace the red floor mats ... they are dirty and old..."
We understand and are pricing them. So far best option is $39 PER MAT, so we are looking for less costly solutions.

IMPORTANT Message from CRAB:

Attention!! Anderson Barrel (arch) Closures to change Monday

Posted: 31 Oct 2013 01:41 PM PDT

Hi Boaters

See the notice below about upcoming changes to the arch closures at Anderson bridge. FYI, barrels=arches to many of us.

Please be aware that the changes are not instantaneous. Meaning there will be equipment and barges at large as things are getting moved around. This will require your increased situational awareness in the vicinity of the bridge. Simplified, this means look closely where you are going and what is moving toward you.

Also be aware that construction timelines are subject to change. Due to the uncertain nature of rehab work it is always possible that there will be a delay.

As more information becomes available Ill forward it.

Be Safe,
Aleks

Boundy, Stephanie (DOT)

MassDOT's contractor plans on switching barrels in the river on Monday, November 4, 2013 and will close the center barrel closed for approximately 3 days.

They will then  switch again on Thursday, November 7, 2013,  to have the middle barrel and the Boston barrel open and the Cambridge side barrel closed.  If you need any additional information, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.

Thanks for getting the word out!

Best,

-Stephanie
