CRI Para-Rowers at HOCR
Proud and Strong
|
In their second year rowing a double together at the HOCR, Priscilla Lowell and Jaden Thoennes did not fail to impress with their improved time of 30:29.9. Focused and strong even as the headwind picked up, these women finished second to Sarasota County Rowing Club.
Marjorie Summers coxed the CRI LTA (legs-trunk-arms) boat which was a composite of CRI pararowers Nate Cappuchino and Steve McClenon along with Rebecca Hernandez of Atlanta and Maddy Garber of Philadelphia. Although the group members had only practiced together a few times before the big race, these athletes rowed strong and finished with a time of 27:38.2. These athletes had a lot of fun and there is already talk of getting back together for another race in the future.

Mil/Vets Experience the HOCR 2013!!
Article Subheading |
CRI's military veterans took to the Charles River with strong aspirations for the HOCR 2013. Cox'n Tom Wieland led oarsmen John Hudanich, Wayne Thompson, Ben Mundell, Bryan Fuller, Nick Kolivas, Moses Bension, Paul Farrell, and Ken Hoffman in their exciting foray into Club Men's 8+ on Saturday afternoon.
Unfortunately, this race was prematurely finished for these athletes as the skeg was lost somewhere around the BU Bridge. HOCR 2014.... Here we come!
Intrepid oarswomen Laura Bajor and Alaine Blair entered the festivities on Sunday afternoon in the Masters Women Doubles event.
Gusty winds provided challenging rowing but these athletes consistently
pulled hard to the finish line, happy to have participated in their first

Youth Teams at the HOCR
Congratulations!!
|
Youth Competitive Varsity sent four teams to the weekend racing at the Head of the Charles, the largest two-day regatta in the world. In windy weather, with gusts testing the rowers' and coxswains' skill, our teams showed CRI proud in their races; their weeks of intense preparation showed, with the teams posting impressive times. And the athletes not rowing were shouting their support of their colleagues on the bridges throughout the 5K race. In addition to CRI boats, several of our CRI youth athletes competed for Cambridge Rowing Club, with Cicely Madden medaling Gold in the Women's Youth Doubles. Congratulations to all our athletes!

River Traffic Pattern Alert
Anderson and Weeks Bridges
Anderson Bridge: Work will resume in the Boston Arch of Anderson bridge Monday 21 October. This means the boom will be deployed and the barge will be back in the arch. It will be as it was two weeks ago. For rowers this means upstream traffic only through the Cambridge arch, downstream traffic only through the center arch. Weeks Footbridge: On Tuesday, October 22, work will begin. This is the bridge downstream of Anderson bridge. Some more particulars are:
Work is planned to begin on Tuesday, October 22, 2013
The barge to be used will be a series of EZ Docks approximately 10' X 20' total
The barge will have only about 6-inches of freeboard (fairly low to the water)
The intention is to store the barge on the Cambridge side of the Basin when it's not in use
Mon-Fri 7am-3pm the barge is expected to be beneath the Cambridge-side span: boaters are asked to avoid this span during this time
Placement of silt booms under the Boston and Cambridge-side arches near the shore is required, rowers are asked to be mindful of these booms to avoid catching oars on them.
