In addition, three scullers stayed behind to represent CRI in the U19/U17/U15 events at the Head of the Quinobequin. Of particular note is Joe Carleo's 4th place achievement (as a 15-year old competing up among 17 entries in the Men's U19 race). "In addition, Gabby Guttormsen, Maddie Fraser, and Liz Johnson competed in the Women's U17 race." Complete results including times are available at Head of the Quinobequin results. With resounding leads, impressive young rowers, and amazing depth, CRI Youth teams remain a force in Juniors rowing competition. All in all, it was an amazing day on the water. Thank you to our hosts, and to parents and guests who supported and cheered the athletes on. And congratulations to the athletes for their impressive performances! Go CRI!

CRI to Launch Unique Wakeless Boat
Wednesday, October 16th
|
COMMUNITY ROWING, INC. LAUNCHES NEW AND UNIQUE WAKELESS BOAT Coaching Vessel Designed and Built in Brighton by CRI for Safety and Maneuverability WHAT: Newly designed, first-of-its-kind wakeless boat for coaching on the water, created by Community Rowing staff and a team of Boston Public School graduates, and powered by electric motor, will be launched. WHEN: 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013. WHERE: On the Charles River, at the docks of the Harry Parker Boathouse at Community Rowing, Inc. WHO: Community Rowing, Inc. Executive Director Bruce Smith, CRI Boatman and boat designer Dave Snowdon, Assistant Boatman Tristan McKee, and the team of Boston Public School graduates of the Summer Scholars program who participated in design and construction of the new boat: Dovan Pardovany, Gisleiner Garcia, and Kimberly Valdez. BACKGROUND: Whether they are monohulls or catamarans, boats used for coaching rowing have always created more wake than was desirable. Community Rowing, Inc.'s staff decided to get creative and do something about it. Boatman Dave Snowdon, an entrepreneur who studied design in Maine, was given the challenge. Dave and his staff started from scratch, designed a uniquely shaped hull under a low-profile deck, and powered the new boat with a rarely used electric outboard motor, for maximum sustainability. Snowden tested the design with quarter-scale models, and with the help of three students from the Martin Luther King Jr. Special Scholars program in Boston Public Schools built the new boat out of fiberglass. The design and construction took about a year and a half, and the new boat - its name to be revealed at Wednesday's event - will make its debut this week. The new boat is not only highly maneuverable and virtually wakeless but also has advanced safety features. Being low to the water, it is well suited for helping anyone in the water to safety. After the new boat is launched on Wednesday, the Annual Monster Launch Rodeo will commence, pitching competing boats and coach/operators against each other in coaching-like situations on the water. After being put to the test tomorrow, the new wakeless launch will be one of the coaching vessels participating in this coming weekend's Head of the Charles Regatta. |
A Note to the CRI Community
Thank You
|
Dear CRI community,
We would like to thank you for all of the efforts that helped make the reception for Karen Douglas so successful. Everyone's efforts, from table assembly to food donations, floral bouquets, last minute shopping, food assembly, sound systems, and of course the clean-up were appreciated on Saturday. So many of you from our CRI community gave of time and energy to Karen's family. We could not have pulled off such a smooth event without the outstanding efforts of all.
With appreciation, Cam, Jim and Aileen

CRAB: Anderson Bridge Traffic Pattern Alert
HOCR Regatta Week
|
From CRAB:
The State has informed us that all three spans of the Anderson Bridge will open for Regatta week, by the end of work on Friday. Which means, all three spans should be open for rowing on Saturday morning.
As soon as all three spans are open, the ROWING traffic pattern will revert to the standard traffic pattern as written below: Anderson: In each direction, crews and scullers shall use the right-hand arch. The center arch is for upstream crews and scullers only to avoid boats launching from Weld Boathouse. Power boats will continue, as always, to use the center arch bi-directionally. Please be sure that the Boston arch is, in fact, open before reverting to the standard traffic pattern and please continue to use caution in this area. Also, if you see rowers continuing to use the Center Arch as a downstream arch, please take the initiative to kindly correct them immediately.
Work will continue on Anderson bridge immediately following the regatta, so expect an arch closure on Monday morning. We believe that the Cambridge Arch will close, but be on your toes in case things go differently. And as an aside, the third Head of the Kevin will take place bright and early Saturday morning (off the line at 7AM). Race organizers will check out the course prior to the event but... the right hand arch is the safest. Keep informed of river traffic pattern updates by visiting the CRAB website:
