CRI Competes on the Charles
Cromwell Cup Regatta on the Charles River
|
CRI Masters, Mens, Womens, and Junior Girls teams competed locally in the Cromwell Cup Regatta, a 1000 meter race from Weeks Bridge to the banks of the Riverside Boat Club on the Charles River. Riverside hosts the fun and casual regatta to encourage friendly competition and to build awareness of rowing in the Boston/Cambridge community. CRI Parent/Child Teams won silver and bronze medals; Mens Open teams won two silver medals (Mens Open 4+ (A), Mens Open 1x (Cash Prize)/N Babikian, and Womens Jr (C) narrowly missed medaling in the 2x. Congratulations to all our rowers!

Correction: CRI Junior Competitive Summer Teams Medals at 2013 USRowing Club Nationals |
One of CRI's Junior Competitive Summer team's Gold medals was incorrectly listed as Bronze in last week's write-up of the 2013 USRowing Club Nationals in Camden, NJ. The Womens Junior A 4+ took GOLD in their event: Cox: Beth Yudelman, Sophie Overall, Eliza Daniels, Sophia Stone and Monika Sobieszek (pictured with coach Ethan Curren). In addition, the coxswain for the medaling Womens Senior Ltwt 4+ was Beth Yudelman.
The full list of medaling teams is listed below. Our apologies for the errors, and congratulations again to our athletes!

Letter From the Executive Director
Search Committee Process at CRI
|
Dear CRI Supporters,
Following the recent departure of both Ethan Curren and Marko Vukovic from CRI's Junior Competitive staff, I thought it important to give you an update on what we are planning for the process to select the head coaches for the Junior Boys and Junior Girls positions at CRI. After consulting with the CRI Board President Lila McCain, we have established two search committees and have asked Kane Larin to chair each committee which will also include a parent representative (Diane McDermott Roy for the girls, Annie Cohen for the boys), a coaching representative, and a board representative. Both jobs have been posted and ask you to please encourage interested parties to apply. While we have outstanding internal candidates, in order to be good stewards of the program, we believe it is in the best long-term interest of rowing at CRI to look outside as well and to do a full, thorough search for the next Head Coaches. If you have comments/suggestions please feel free to share with us.
The Head Coaches for CRI's Junior Competitive Program are among the preeminent youth coaching positions in the Northeast. When such positions have opened up in the past we have used the following guidelines to fill the position. We have found that these steps have allowed us to be thorough but move quickly:
·The position is posted and widely advertised.
·The Selection Committee will review the candidates and begin narrowing the group to a small number of people for interviews.
·A parallel process may identify a small list who may be recruited to apply.
·During the interview process candidates will meet with the Committee as well as various staff and volunteers. We will also give each candidate a chance to meet with a small group of athletes.
·Following the interviews we will gather input from all groups and the search committee will make a decision or bring in the finalists for a 2nd round of interviews.
·We anticipate having new coaches on board in time for fall planning.
Please be aware that we are trying to find candidates who are the best fit with our rowing program at CRI. Ideally the new head coaches are people who:
·Will maintain "whole person" development that is our mission at CRI
·Will honor the commitments of the athletes to the shared mission of Community Rowing
·Is a great educator who will have a positive influence on the lives of our young athletes
·Will help to shape and positively influence the future of junior competitive rowing in the United States
·Will build on the legacy of Junior Competitive Rowing that Ethan established over his long tenure at CRI, and that Marko continued to develop.
Kane Larin will serve as the point person for the process. Please be in touch with Kane (kane@communityrowing.org) with any comments, concerns, or suggestions you may have. Although Kane may not be able to reply directly to all emails, he will share all information with the members of the Search Committees for their consideration.
Many thanks for your continued interest in and support of CRI and the Junior Competitive Teams.
Sincerely,
Bruce Smith
