Rowing the Prouty
A Grand Effort by CRI Scullers!!

CRI was well-represented at The Prouty this year with six single sculls. Race organizers noticed the CRI presence (lots of red white and black blades on the river) and thanked the team.

The Prouty is an annual fund-raising event for the Norris Cotton Cancer Center in Hanover, NH. Scullers row 5,10,15 or 20 miles on the CT river starting from the Dartmouth boathouse.

This year the CRI team raised $2800 for the cause with Lynn Salmonsen and Laurie Tenaglia leading the team's fundraising efforts with almost $1000 raised each.

USRowing Club Nationals
CRI Junior Competitive Summer Teams Score 8

CRI's Junior Competitive Summer teams walked away with 8 medals (1 Gold, 2 Silver, 5 Bronze) at this weekend's 2013 US Rowing Club National Championships on the Cooper River in Camden, NJ.   In addition, the Women's team ranked second in the Women's Point Trophy.

The steep competition included 97 clubs from across the country, including many USRowing teams with crews selected for the National Team for upcoming world championships (those teams included some of our CRI fall and spring rowers), Development Camps, as well as Composite Teams.  CRI rowers participated in 36 events (thirty-four 2000 events and two 500m dashes), including junior (<19), intermediate, and senior events.  With as many as 62 boats challenging in some of our races, rowers competed in Time Trials, before qualifying for Semifinal heats, then finally advancing to Final races.

Medaling CRI events and teams are listed below; full race details are available at : USRowing

Bravo Loryn Sheffner & Rachel Harris
Rachel Harris and Loryn Sheffner at Henley on the Thames
Rachel and Loryn wearing hats at Henley. Cheers!!

Our own Loryn Sheffner raced a 1x as well as a double with Rachel Harris (we miss you Rachel!) at the Royal Henley Regatta on Thames.

Loryn was eliminated in the first round in the B1x. Rachel and Loryn made it to the finals in the double (B2x event) winning two races to advance to the final. Bravo!

Here are Loryn's posts from Faceboook:

"Race Report. Got through two rounds in the B2x by open water, on to FINALS tomorrow. High five Rachel Harris! Also raced well in the 1x though did not advance.

Gutsy effort in the 2x final today. We were beaten by a strong composite but left it all on the course. "

Heads Up - Weight Room Etiquette!!
Re-Rack Those Weights After You Lift...

Community Rowing prides itself on 'Rowing for All'. Being a place for all does not stop at the river's edge - it includes all our facilities! Yet, look what has been happening in the weight room.

Can you bench 100 pounds? Good. Now put the weights away when you're done.

Don't leave it to someone else to finish your heavy-lifting workout by leaving heavy plates for the next person to put away. Always re-rack plates and move equipment to where it belongs for the next person who needs to work out in the weight room.

Strength training for all. So put your 100-pound plates away so the rest of us can workout.

No more leaving heavy plates on the machines for others to move!
We are a boathouse for all!
Let's use it that way!
