Military Veteran Fundraiser
A Great Evening!
|
This past Saturday the long awaited Military Veteran Fundraiser was held at the CRI Boathouse. It was a great success in many areas.
Secretary Coleman Nee from the Massachusetts Office of Veterans Services delivered a keynote address highlighting the many great efforts being done in the State of Massachusetts to enhance veterans services, noting that Massachusetts is leading the way and recognized CRI for being a part of this effort. He presented Chris Obusek, CRI's Veterans and Adaptive Programs Coordinator, a Citation from Governor Deval Patrick for her outstanding service in providing opportunities for veterans with enthusiasm and dedication to duty, highlighting her significant leadership contributions to the veterans past, present and future at CRI. Well deserved Chris!
The event yielded over 100 guests and the auction items collected over $2,000 in contributions. Tom Benoit, U.S. Marine Corp and CRI Veteran Rower, auctioned off a flag brought back from Afghanistan with an amazing story of courage and heroism. The flag sold for $400!

Fitness, Love and Circles
By Coach Bode
|
As the snow (hopefully) parts way for April showers and May flowers our Love Circle Circuit Training group joined together for the last official class of Winter Term 2013. This is, of course, bittersweet. We all look forward to putting blades back in the water, but ... what will be do without Nikki's British twisted 80's i-phone playlists? What will we do without Susan's extraordinary push-ups, Sharon's methodical management, Erin's precise Triple Extension, Marylin's get into-it grit, the newcomer Cheryl's can-do attitude, and Beth's appetite for The Crystal Method?! And for those -- Tracy, Charlene, Gina, Lucia, and George -- who thought the Love Circle was going to be some sort of pillow-talk while "lifting light weight for high reps" in order to "tone" your muscles ;-) you now know getting more fit requires some "tough" love ;-). We enjoyed having you share your love with us as often as you were able! And, for those who have not found their way into our fitness community we invite you to join us next winter. What does love and fitness have to do with circles anyhow?!?! Join us and find out in 2014!

14th Annual Earth Day Charles River Cleanup
Join the CRI Crew, and Get a T-shirt!
|
Thank you to the folks who have responded already! We'll need a few more helpers though, so please be a part of our CRI crew for the 14th Annual Earth Day Charles River Cleanup. With your help we can join other volunteers for this year's cleanup, spending some time helping to keep the banks of the river we love so much clean.
The 14th Annual Earth Day Charles River Cleanup will be held on Saturday, April 20th from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The Cleanup involves thousands of volunteers helping to beautify the Charles River and its tributaries by picking up trash and cleaning the riverbanks at over 100 sites from Boston to Bellingham.
Volunteers will be provided with all of the supplies and instructions needed to make the cleanup a success - trash bags, gloves and a t-shirt for each participant.
To find out more about the event please visit the Charles River Watershed Association's website
