14th Annual Earth Day Charles River Cleanup
Join the CRI Crew

Thank you to the folks who have responded already! We'll need a few more helpers though, so please be a part of our CRI crew for the 14th Annual Earth Day Charles River Cleanup. With your help we can join other volunteers for this year's cleanup, spending some time helping to keep the banks of the river we love so much clean.

The 14th Annual Earth Day Charles River Cleanup will be held on Saturday, April 20th from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The Cleanup involves thousands of volunteers helping to beautify the Charles River and its tributaries by picking up trash and cleaning the riverbanks at over 100 sites from Boston to Bellingham.

Volunteers will be provided with all of the supplies and instructions needed to make the cleanup a success - trash bags, gloves and a t-shirt for each participant.

To find out more about the event please visit the Charles River Watershed Association's website

.

To volunteer with other CRI folk on the morning of the 20th, please e-mail Nonna at: nonna@communityrowing.org

Military Veteran Gala
March 23rd

You may or may not have heard, Community Rowing, Inc. sponsors rowing for active military and veterans to include disabled veterans through its adaptive rowing program. This outreach program, speaking from a personal standpoint, is huge boon to veterans like myself and we are collectively grateful for the donation of time, energy and considerable know-how to make it all come together. This program has been in existence for some 6 seasons and has grown from a handful of veterans to over a hundred part time active and veteran military rowers both men and woman from all branches of service. The program meets a couple of times a week and even has put a couple of boats in the
HOTC.

As no good deed goes undone, collectively the Mil/Vet Team is throwing a silent-auction-kick-off-the-season gala, the first of hopefully many annual fundraisers to give back to the program. Our goal this year is help purchase a new F-350 for the boathouse to safely bring the teams to and from competitions. You know us military folk, always safety first. To that end, Bruce Smith our Executive Director, Whitney Griffin, Active Coast Guard and myself Bryan Fuller, Veteran Army and resident ocean rower met with Peter King of Watertown Ford. I cannot be certain if it was Whitney's numerous awards in her dress uniform, Bruce's confident numbers or my impassioned plea to support our program, but it didn't take long for Peter to throw in his support and become the Official Sponsor of Community Rowing. Peter has generously offered us not one, but two trucks at a significant discount to show his support for Veterans and the rowing community in general. We are very lucky to have such strong supporter in our community and would ask you to consider Watertown Ford if you were in the market to purchase a new truck.

Our Silent Auction Gala is set for Saturday, March 23rd, from 7 PM to 11 PM. Harpoon Brewery, like the greatest beer in the world, will sponsor the auction and it will be key noted by the Secretary of Veteran Affairs, Coleman Nee. We will music by English Tom in the Bookstore, one of the best bands to come out of Berkeley in some time. You can preview their music here on you tube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTWGRtFvzo4

Seriously, they are awesome. We will also have numerous games and prizes and some serious auction items to include a paddleboard rowing rig and oars from Alden Rowing and a top of the line paddleboard from Speedboard to an actual unit flag from Afghanistan from one of the support units that aided in operation Neptune Spear...yes, the operation that killed Osama Bin Laden, an extremely rare piece of military history that is being generously donated by one of our very own Veterans who served over there.

I know, you are already thinking, I am there! But, what are the details and how can I support this terrific cause and event. Well, tickets are limited to 300 and cost $25. They can be purchased at CRI at the front desk or through Tracy or Bruce. Also, we are accepting donations in the form of auction items. If you are thinking you have some marketable skill or item that you think could support our program, please email us at crifundraiser@gmail.com or drop off your item with Tracy Smith. Some terrific items could be timeshares, tickets, rowing or military memorabilia, or even your professional time. If you donate an item, you will receive two free tickets to the event and our eternal thanks.

See you March 23rd!
